What is an e-portfolio?

An E-portfolio is a tool, which allows you to collect information and resources and display them in a variety of views to be shared with others. E-portfolios can be used to enter, save, organize, view, and selectively share educational records, artifacts, and reflections. They can include:

- Individual development plans
- Performance reviews
- Research
- Peer review and feedback
- Sharing, distribution

What is Mahara?

Yes! Mahara is an online platform and can be accessed from any computer with a working Internet connection.

The Academic Core Processes & Sytstems offers workshops on Mahara every semester on fixed dates or upon request at any other time. Check the Scheduled Sessions for times and dates or fill out the Request a Session form to schedule a Custom Session. Where can I teach my students how to use Mahara?

How long is my Mahara account active?
|

Your Mahara account is active as long as you are a faculty member at AUB. If you leave, your Mahara account will be terminated and it is your responsibility to export your e-portfolio and take it with you.

How do I export my e-portfolio before I leave AUB?
|
Under the Export tab in Mahara, you have the options of exporting all of your e-portfolio or some of your Views. The exported file is a zipped file that contains your e-portfolio pages and the supporting documents. You can create a webpage out of your e-portfolio or Views that you can edit using FrontPage or any similar software, and you can publish on your personal website. How can I use Mahara with my Moodle course?
|

ACPS is currently working on Integrating Moodle and Mahara for easier access for you and your students. For now, your students have to log in to Mahara and to Moodle separately but with the same username and password. In any Moodle activities that require the use of Mahara, you can ask your students to share links to their Mahara E-portfolios in the Moodle activity.

How can I create a group for my entire class?
|
Fill in the New Controlled Group form. Within 24 hours, the Mahara administrator will inform you that your group has been created and that your students are now added to it.

How can I remove students from a Controlled Group?
|
|
To remove students from your course's Controlled Group, you need to send an e-mail to the Mahara administrator specifying: your course title, course ID, and the AUBnet ID (e.g. abc99) of the students to be removed. The system administrator will notify you once the students have been removed from the group.

Is the content I place on Mahara private and secure?
|
|
The server where Mahara @ AUB is housed is a secured server (notice the https in the URL). You can choose to make any content you place on Mahara either private or public.

Can people outside of AUB view my e-porfolio?
|
|
It depends. You can choose to make your e-portfolio available for anyone to view, or available only to a defined group of people. You can also make your e-portfolio completely private.

Can I use images and video in my e-portfolio?
|
|
Yes, images and video, used appropriately, can enhance your e-portfolio. However, file sizes need to be minimized to conserve server space and to allow people to access your e-portfolio easily.
