Academic Core Processes & Systems (ACPS)
Blended Course Redesign

Following the success of the Blended Project @ AUB, which started last June 2009, as well as the 8th Faculty Seminar, which focused primarily on Blended courses at AUB, the Academic Core Processes and Systems (ACPS) is continuing on its path to promote new innovative teaching methods.

ACPS is now offering training on Blended Learning. The workshop is made up of both face-to-face and online sessions.

Criteria for taking a Blended Learning workshop

In order for faculty members at AUB to enroll in one of the Blended Learning workshops, it is mandatory for the following conditions to be met:

  • To be a full-time OR part-time faculty member
  • To have the required time to attend the workshop you selected and to redesign 70% of the course. Full participation is obligatory
  • To be teaching, or have recently taught, a fully Web-enhanced course using Moodle
  • To be approved by the department Chair/Dean to teach in a Blended format
  • To be selected by the ACPS Instructional Designers based on level of proficiency with Web-Enhanced teaching

Step 1 - Choose your Plan

This Fall 2012-13 semester, ACPS is offering one condensed 5-week workshop.

Workshop Schedule:

  • Time: October 8 - November 11, 2012
  • Duration: 5 weeks of training
  • Format: Online sessions with occasional face-2-face meetings (Dates and times of face-to-face sessions will be determined at a later time)
  • Course Redesign:The workshop will be followed by frequent meetings with ACPS. It is a requirement to start the course redesign process directly after the workshop. At least 70% of the course should be redesigned prior to teaching it

Step 2 - Apply!

If the workshop schedule above suits your schedule, you are now ready to submit a proposal to ACPS to let us know what your expectations of Blended Learning are. To make it easier for you, we have created the Faculty Blended Proposal form.

The purpose of this form is to guide the approval and development of Blended courses at the American University of Beirut. This form should be filled by all faculty members who are planning to redesign their courses into a Blended format, and approved by the department Chair and Dean.

  • Fill out the Faculty Blended Proposal form

Once ACPS receives the proposal, you will be contacted for a meeting to discuss the training further.

"The most beneficial aspect of the workshop was that it was given in a blended format and so we got to experience it from a student's perspective and put ourselves in students' shoes. This allowed us to anticipate possible complaints and pitfalls as well as the benefits."
- Workshop Participant (Fall 2010-2011)

"Facilitators were professional, helpful and friendly. They delivered the course content to a busy and fussy audience in a skillful manner. Thumbs up to the fantastic blended learning team."
- Workshop Participant (Fall 2010-2011)

"Personally I wouldn't have attempted to change my course into a blended format; what motivated me was knowing that I have a great support team to assist me."
