The American University of Beirut (AUB) will begin accepting applications for its newly instated master’s degree program in human resource management (MHRM) on April 15, 2012.
The newly created program at the Suliman S. Olayan School of Business (OSB) targets early to mid-career professionals in human resources management or other fields who wish to equip themselves with the skills that would help them advance in the top organizations of the region and beyond.
“The program will prepare the next generation of ‘expert leaders’ in the HR function,” said Dima Jamali, chairperson for the Management, Marketing and Entrepreneurship Track at OSB and Program Director for the new MHRM Program. “It is designed to provide in-depth knowledge of the human capital management function while using a broad array of HR strategies, tools and practices.”
“Executives in the Middle East region are increasingly becoming aware of the importance of and need for progressive higher education aimed at the HR profession,” said OSB Dean George Najjar. “Given the dearth of specialized and advanced HRM offerings in the region, OSB has moved forward with this new master’s program. We are confident that our new program offers a cutting edge, unique, region-relevant graduate education in human resource management that prepares effective leaders in HRM for the Middle East region and beyond.”
The 30-credit program may be completed in 15 to 18 months, depending on participant background. It covers foundational and advanced HR courses and is specially designed for the working professional, as classes are scheduled for three full days every three weeks.
Among the courses offered in the program are:
Managing the Recruitment Process; Human Capital Training and Development; Compensation Management in the Broader Performance Management Context; Business Ethics and Sustainability; Leadership and Behavior in Organizations; Strategic Human Resource Management and Change Management; Professional HRM Challenges in the Middle East; HRM Best Practices in a Global Context; and Organizational Research Design and Methods
The program was approved and voted upon by the Board of Trustees in June 2011 and has been officially registered with the New York State Department of Education.
