Crowds flock to the AUB Job Fair 2017

The two-day AUB Job Fair 2017 kicked off on upper campus on April 20 with a wide range of local, regional, and international institutions arrayed in stands across upper campus, ready to meet with students and other job seekers.

The theme of this year’s Job Fair was “Your Future Awaits!” and it was clear from the throngs of people and vibrant atmosphere that AUB students take full advantage of this opportunity to consider different careers options.

“It’s useful because we don’t always hear about these companies, so when they come to the University, you think about new companies where you can apply; you have new ideas and new opportunities,” said Maroun, a senior student who had given his CV to numerous companies on the first day of the Job Fair.

Over 120 institutions took part in the Job Fair this year. Along with a plethora of business-related companies, including banks and accounting firms, many other sectors were also represented, including engineering and construction, information technology, pharmaceuticals, retail, insurance, and agriculture.  Numerous schools and universities were also in the mix, in addition to several non-governmental organizations and philanthropic foundations.

Coordinated by the Career and Placement Services (CPS) of AUB’s Office of Student Affairs, the annual Job Fair brings back many firms from year to year who are eager to recruit from the University.

“I meet a lot of AUB students and they are some of the best in Lebanon,” said Lillian, who runs the internship program for one of Lebanon’s major banks. “They are serious, motivated, and willing to learn. They invest in themselves, learning at AUB, and so they take the internship seriously.”

The CPS produced an informative brochure to help guide job seekers. It includes detailed information about each participating organization and the majors they are most interested in. The brochure also has welcome notes from Job Fair Coordinator, Dr. Maryam Ghandour, and from the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Talal Nizameddin.

“Immensely talented and ambitious people have gathered here to say that we have hope for a better future of prosperity, progress, and innovation,” said Dr. Nizameddin in the brochure’s introduction. “AUB students and graduates are the shining example of what Lebanon and the region have to offer.”

It is not surprising that so many organizations are interested in coming to the Job Fair, considering that AUB placed in the top 100 worldwide in the category of Employer Reputation in the most recent QS World University Rankings. This category measures the reputation of universities amongst their employers and the employability of their recent graduates.

The AUB Job Fair 2017 runs from April 20-21, from the Green Oval to Main Gate, with many special career events and individual interview sessions held in West Hall.
