AUB and Coca-Cola establish the Coca-Cola Chair in MarketingPRESS RELEASE - FEBRUARY 20, 2006 - BEIRUTThe American University of Beirut (AUB) and the Coca-Cola Foundation have announced the establishment of the Coca-Cola Chair in Marketing at the Suliman S. Olayan School of Business. A $2-million gift from the Coca-Cola Foundation will be used to endow this chair as well as conduct various activities.
The donation will ensure that a seat of learning bearing the Coca-Cola name will always exist at AUB. It will also strengthen the school's academic programs and promote the study of the field of marketing through teaching, research, and service. |
President John Waterbury and Dean George K. Najjar of the Olayan School of Business spoke of their deep appreciation of Coca-Cola's support. President Waterbury commented, "AUB is fortunate to be the beneficiary of this splendid example of support for business education. Coca-Cola's gift to AUB will enable us to enhance, at a senior level, the already significant faculty strength of the Olayan School of Business." Dean Najjar noted that this partnership will strengthen business education in the region and is an "important milestone in our ongoing pursuit of international visibility."
With this gift, Coca-Cola is again demonstrating its commitment to quality education in the region and long-term dedication to the development of future business talent in the Arab world. Lubna Forzley, Public Affairs and Communications Manager for Coca-Cola Middle East commented: "Our contribution and new partnership with AUB will not only allow us to have a strong impact on students, but also to encourage them to consider social responsibility and community development activities as strategic imperatives, as they equip themselves to become future business leaders." |
AUB, which was founded in 1866, is celebrating its 140th anniversary in 2006.
The Olayan School of Business was named in 2000 to honor the memory of the late Suliman S. Olayan and to celebrate one hundred years of business education at AUB. The school, which has 40 full-time faculty members, 1,200 undergraduates, 150 MBA students, and 65 EMBA (Executive MBA) candidates, is the premier business school in the Arab world. |
