Maya Abou Zeid is an Assistant Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the American University of Beirut (AUB) with experience in the areas of travel behavior modeling and forecasting and traffic flow modeling and simulation. Prior to joining AUB, Maya received a doctoral degree in Transportation from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2009. Her dissertation focused on measuring and modeling activity and travel well-being. During her tenure at MIT, Maya also acted as the coordinator of a graduate transportation educational program offered in Portugal and developed as part of the MIT-Portugal program. Prior to receiving her doctoral degree, Maya was an Associate of Cambridge Systematics from 2003 to 2005, working in the area of travel demand forecasting and market research. Maya received a Master’s degree in Transportation from MIT in 2003, and a Bachelor’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from AUB in 2001.

Dr. Jumana Antoun has first joined AUB as Chemistry major in 1994 then continued her studies to receive her MD in 2001 followed by her specialization in Family Medicine in 2005. She started her career in ambulatory services as primary care practitioner. In 2006, she joined Averda Company where she worked as physician executive and, occupational physician at the company health service. Concurrently, she joined Family Medicine department at AUH as clinical associate where she started her career as academic physician who is involved in teaching of residents and students. She became a member of the committee involved in teaching communication skills of the medical students. She is a member of the board of the Lebanese society of Family medicine as well as the president of the scientific committee of the society for the past 2 years. Her research interests are communication skills; occupational medicine as well as health promotion.

Dr. Mohamad Abiad graduated from the American University of Beirut in 1998 with a BE in Civil Engineering. He continued his graduate studies at the Lebanese American University and received his MBA with emphasis in management in September 2002 while simultaneously beginning his work in the food manufacturing industry. He then joined Purdue University and graduated in August 2004 with a Masters of Engineering focusing on food and bio processing. In August 2009 Dr. Abiad received his PhD in food and bio process engineering focusing on powder handling and stability. During his studies at Purdue University, Dr. Abiad filed two provisional patents. The first involves the development of powder testing technique using dynamic mechanical analysis while the other covers a new cork like product from soy and corn which won the first and second prizes in soy product innovation and corn product innovation competitions. Dr. Abiad holds several certifications including ‘Retail Food Safety Manager’, ‘Better Process Control School - Canned Foods; Principles of Thermal Process Control, Acidification and Container Closure Evaluation’ and ‘HACCP – development and implementation’. Dr. Abiad’s research interests focus on powder characterization, application of rheology to food engineering, rheology of biomaterials, dough rheology, effect of glass transition on product texture and stability, effect of processing on aging and development of new techniques in rheology and powder characterization. Dr. Abiad will be joining the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences as Assistant Professor in Nutrition and Food Science.

Dr. Abbyad received her BSN and MSN degrees, and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner certificate from the University of California in San Francisco. She has worked as a maternity nurse and practitioner in both hospital settings and private practice. She taught nursing at AUB in the early ‘80s, and then worked as a clinical nurse specialist in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She has been teaching at The University of Texas at Austin for the last 16 years. In 2008 she received her PhD from UT. Her area of interest has been the impact of racism on black/white perinatal health disparities. A secondary area of interest is health promotion

Dr. Abbas Alhakim first joined AUB as an undergraduate student of Mathematics in 1991. He graduated with a B.S. degree in 1994 and an M.S.degree in 1996. He then moved to the U.S. and obtained a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics with a focus on Stochastic Processes and Applied Probability from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2001. He was appointed in 2001 as Visiting Assistant Professor (basically a Postdoc) at the University of Delaware. In 2003 he joined the Mathematics Department at Clarkson University in northern New York as an Assistant Professor of Statistics. While at Clarkson, he taught a number of Mathematics and statistics courses at the undergraduate and graduates levels. Dr. Alhakim's research interests include the design and testing of pseudo-random number generators, which is the branch of computational statistics that provides the toolkit for any scientific simulation involving a random input. He is also interested in the theory of Markov chains and Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithms and techniques, such as sampling from complicated combinatorial sets, and investigating/monitoring convergence to the stationary distribution. Another main interest of his is the study of de Bruijn sequences, a class of combinatorial/graph theoretical objects. Mahmoud received a B.Sc. (Honours) and an M.Sc. in chemical engineering from the university of Leeds, Leeds, United Kingdom in 1984 and 1985 respectively, and then a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Imperial College, University of London UK. Mahmoud has over fourteen years industrial experience with Veolia Water, a multinational water and wastewater services company, where he worked as a process engineer, project manager, technical and commercial director and general manager. Over the last two years Mahmoud was executive projects director for a large number of district cooling, desalination, water and wastewater treatment projects in the UAE. Mahmoud is a member of the International Desalination Association, European Desalination Society and Institution of Chemical Engineers. His research interests are in the areas of heat exchanger networks synthesis and operation, process integration, desalination and water reuse. Mahmoud will be joining the Mechanical/Chemical Engineering department this fall as Assistant Professor.

Ali earned his BSc degree in Agriculture from AUB in 2000, and completed his MSc in Tropical Agricultural Development, option in Crop Protection, from the University of Reading, UK in 2001. He then went on to complete a PhD in Applied Economics at Imperial College London, Wye Campus, UK in 2008. Since 2006, Ali has worked as a consultant in the UK water sector since 2006, and has been involved in the design, implementation and analysis of customer surveys and cost-benefit analysis studies with a number of British water and sewerage companies. Karim Diab, MD, FAAP is a pediatric and fetal cardiologist who had earned his medical degree from the American University of Beirut in 1999. He completed his residency in Pediatrics at the State University of New York-Children's Hospital of Buffalo, New York. Dr. Diab then completed his fellowship training in Pediatric Cardiology at the University of Chicago-Comer Children’s Hospital in 2007. He then joined the Eller Congenital Heart Center at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center/Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona. He is also an Assistant Professor at the University of Arizona, Department of Pediatrics. He is board certified in both General Pediatrics and the sub-board of Pediatric Cardiology. He is member of several professional societies including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Cardiology, the American Society of Echocardiography and the American Telemedicine Association. Dr. Diab's research interest focuses on molecular karyotyping of congenital heart disease. He has authored several articles and book chapters and has lectured on congenital heart disease, including fetal echocardiography and percutaneous and perventricular closure of congenital heart defects.

Renzo Di Felice is currently Professor of Chemical Reaction Engineering at the University of Genoa (Italy). He obtained his Batchelor Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of L'Aquila (Italy) in 1981, then his Ph. D. and D. Sc. (Eng) from the University of London (U.K.) in 1988 and 1997 respectively, both in the field of Chemical Engineering. Previous university experiences include University College London, London (UK), the University of Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) and the National University of Singapore (Singapore). Renzo Di Felice's research activity is focused on the fluid dynamic behaviour of two-and three-phase systems, with particular relevance on liquid fluidisation and on granular flow. He also investigates the physical and chemical behaviour of multiphase reactors and he has authored more than 100 papers in international scientific journals. Renzo Di Felice is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), of the Institutions of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) and of the Italian Association of Chemical Engineering (AIDIC) for which he is currently responsible for the Chemical Reaction Division.

Dr. Dalia El Khoury is a Clinical Nutritionist, with the main area of research being the role of macronutrient manipulation of diets in appetite regulation in health and diseases. After graduation from AUB with a BS in Nutrition and as a recipient of Penrose Award and Sutherland Prize in 2002, she had her intensive internship in Dietetics and Therapeutic Nutrition at AUB-MC for 11 months. Afterwards, she joined again AUB to obtain her MSc in Nutrition in 2005. Following that, she immediately had the chance to work as a research assistant at the faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, AUB, over a period of almost 2 years. Then, she completed her PhD in Physiology and Physiopathology at Université Pierre et Marie Curie, France, in December 2008. Since then, she has been assigned as a part-time lecturer during Spring Semester 2009 in the Nutrition Department, AUB, where she taught Advanced Therapeutic Nutrition, and as a research consultant during Summer Semester 2009. She will be joining the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences as a full-time lecturer in Clinical Nutrition.

Professor Fooladi is a Fulbright Visiting Scholar for the Middle East Council of International Exchange of Scholars with the U. S. Department of States. She is currently serving in the Faculty of Medicine/Nursing at the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. In addition to her role as an ambassador for cultural understanding she is teaching, writing research grant proposal, attending charitable clinical practice sites and assisting with program development and curriculum improvements. Dr. Fooladi is an adjunct professor at the Florida State University, College of Nursing and will be teaching in the graduate and DNP program in Tallahassee, Florida in 2010. Before her award as a Fulbright scholar, Dr. Fooladi was the Specialty Director for Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner Program at The University of Texas at El Paso. With duel board certification as a Women’s Health and Family Nurse Practitioner she has been involved in direct patient care for more than 15 years. Her bicultural and multilingual skills have been an asset in her academic, research and clinical practice roles. Professor Fooladi serves on the editorial board of directors for numerous international nursing journals. She has published in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters, monographs, and presented research abstracts worldwide. Her extensive published works has focused on gender influences in nursing education and practice in Iran and Pakistan; identification of barriers to breastfeeding among black American women; finding new knowledge on therapeutic effects of tears and postpartum blues; and enlightening women through Vagina Catalogue. Dr. Fooladi is an advocate for human rights and equality for women and her publications exposes social issues such as the measure of humanity, justice and equality for women in modern world and gender equality issues. Dr. Fooladi has been the Principle Investigator for an NIH funded multicenter and international grant under the Hispanic Health Disparities Research Center, and the PI for a grant funded by the Center for Border Health Research to study the Influence of Periodontal Disease on Adverse Pregnancy outcomes among the Women of Mexican Origin in El Paso, Texas. Her other funded research explored smoking cessation among college students supported by GlaxoSmithKline pharmaceuticals. Clinically, Dr. Fooladi was awarded as one of six nurse practitioners in the nation for her exceptional contributions to the U.S. health care by Pfizer pharmaceuticals. She is the founder and president of World Wide Nursing Service Network (WWNSN) which provides global professional leadership and training. Dr. Fooladi’s highest accomplishment is being a proud mother of two successful married sons and being the grandmother of two beautiful granddaughters Skylar-Persia and Amari-Leila.

Samer Frangie received his PhD in political economy and social theory in 2008 from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. Prior to Cambridge, Samer studied at the London School of Economics and Political Science and the American University of Beirut. His research interests are in the fields of political economy and social theory, with an emphasis on the Middle East. He will be joining the Political Studies and Public Administration Department as an Assistant Professor.

Dr Noël Ghanem is a neuroscientist and a developmental biologist who specialized in brain development and the generation of nerve cells. Dr Ghanem obtained his BSc in Natural Sciences from the Lebanese University in 1999 and his PhD degree in Cellular and Molecular Medicine from the University of Ottawa, Canada in 2006 (2000-2006). After completing three years of postdoctoral training in neuroscience at the Ottawa Hospital, General Campus (2006-2009), Dr Ghanem joined as an assistant professor the department of biology at AUB in 2009. During his studies, Dr Ghanem served as a part-time lecturer and course coordinator at the University of Ottawa where he taught several undergraduate and graduate courses. As a neuroscientist, Dr Ghanem is studying the mechanisms of regulation and the target genes that control the formation of new-born neurons in the developing and adult brain using mouse as an animal model. According to Dr Ghanem, manipulating these mechanisms will be highly relevant to regenerative medicine in the human brain following stroke or brain injury for example. To date, Dr Ghanem has many scientific contributions including peer reviewed articles published in high impact journals such as Genome Research, Development and the Journal of Neuroscience. In recognition of his scientific achievements, Dr Ghanem received several awards and fellowships including the Heart and Stoke Foundation of Canada post-doctoral fellowship (2007-2009) and Astrazeneca Canada post-doctoral fellowship (2007-2009).

Francois-Xavier Gleyzon received his PhD in 2007 from the University of Lancaster, United Kingdom. His research centers on Renaissance Literature, Visual and Cultural Theory. Before joining AUB, Francois-Xavier taught at the University of Manchester and the University of Liverpool. In Spring 2009 he was visiting professor at UCLA’s Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies (CMRS). He is the author of Shakespeare’s Spiral (UPA), Shakespeare and the Archeology of Shadows (MUP) along with a number of peer reviewed articles on English Renaissance Literature and Visual Arts. His publications also include a forthcoming edited book on David Lynch.

Joshua David Gonsalves (Ph.D.; NYU, 2002) works on British Romanticism, the Long Eighteenth-century and Nineteenth-century Poetry, Literature & Culture (including Continental figures; i.e., his participation in a 2009 National Humanities Center Summer Seminar entitled Reading Baudelaire’s Les Fleurs du Mal). He has previously taught in the USA (New York University / Rice University) and Canada (Dalhousie University). Dr. Gonsalves is presently revising Keats Goes Global: Close Reading and the Geopolitics of Cultural Production for publication and is also at work on a second project—a genealogy of the cinema as a cultural mode for visualizing geopolitical conflict: Screening War: The Construction of “Geopolitics” in Pre-Cinematic Mass Culture: 1789-1914. Professor Gonsalves has published in top-tier journals such as Studies in Romanticism, Modern Language Notes, The Wordsworth Circle and Romanticism on the Net: An International Refereed Electronic Journal devoted to Romantic Studies. His most recent article—“Byron’s Venetian Masque of the French Revolution: Sovereignty, Terror, and the Geopolitics of Marino Faliero and The Two Foscari”—is forthcoming in Byron and the Politics of Freedom and Terror (Palgrave, 2010). Dr. Eveline Hitti graduated with an M.D. degree from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD in 2002. After which, she completed three years of residency training in Emergency Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital in 2005. She is certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and has worked at Franklin Square Hospital Center Emergency Department in Baltimore, MD for the past four years as an Attending Physician. Dr. Hitti has a certificate in Business of Medicine from the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School where she is currently completing her M.B.A. Her work has focused on improving key quality measures for severely septic patients and improving emergency department throughput. Dr. Hitti will be involved in teaching, research and clinical activities at the Department of Emergency Medicine.

Iver Arnegard earned his Ph.D. in English and Creative Writing from Ohio University where he studied with South African novelist, Zakes Mda. Iver has published fiction, nonfiction, and poetry in the Atlanta Review, Barrow Street, Copper Nickel, Gulf Coast, the Missouri Review, Willow Springs, and elsewhere. Much of his writing is informed by the landscapes in which he lives and works: Alaska, Montana, the Dakotas.

Fouad earned an Honors degree in Chemistry from the Lebanese University in 2001. He then joined Dalhousie University (Halifax, Canada) as a special undergraduate in Chemical Engineering and completed his Master of Applied Science in Chemical Engineering in May 2004. Fouad went on continuing his doctoral studies at Dalhousie University as an NSERC scholar (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada) until he completed his PhD in Chemical Engineering in April 2009. His research interests are in reaction engineering and reactor design where he focused on intensifying chemical reactors and processes in order to reduce their energy consumption and render them more profitable and environmentally friendly. He has also worked on projects sponsored by Natural Resources Canada and Imperial Oil Limited, amongst others. Fouad is joining the FEA as an Assistant Professor to help in the establishment of the Chemical and Petroleum Engineering Department.

Dr. Bassim obtained his MD degree with distinction from the American Univeristy of Beirut in 2001. He then spent a year in research at the Hearing Research Laboratories at Duke University, and completed his residency in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He spent two years in fellowship for Otology and Neurotology at the House Ear Clinic before returning to join FM/AUBMC as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Otolaryngology. Dr. Bassim was placed on the Dean’s Honor List throughout his studies at AUB, and was elected to the AUB chapter of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society as a junior. He received the Penrose Award and the Naji Sahyoun Memorial Award upon graduating from AUB. Dr. Bassim has been academically active with over 18 publications in peer-reviewed journals over the last few years, in addition to several talks at international conferences. His research interests involve all diseases of the ear, especially hearing loss and its correction via different implantable prostheses.

Having graduated with a B.S. in computer engineering from France, Hoda returned to Lebanon in 1996 where she was appointed in the college of Engineering at the Lebanese University as a Database administrator. She received her Ph.D. in Instructional Technology from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville in Spring 2009. During her studies, she was offered a research and teaching assistantship. She taught multimedia courses as well as applications for integrating technology in classrooms. Her objective is to conduct research ? both quantitative and qualitative ? to improve techniques for making learning more accessible and enjoyable. Her research interests include online learning communities, ubiquitous computing using Free Open Source Software, and the effectiveness of multimedia in teaching and learning.

Lina is an organisational psychologist and psychometrician specialising in cross-cultural assessment in organisations. Lina completed her BSc in Psychology at AUB followed by an MSc in Organisational Psychology at City University, London. She then stayed at City University and completed her PhD in Psychometrics in January 2009. During her studies, Lina received a full scholarship from the Department of Psychology at City University and an additional research support funding from the Psychometrics Centre, Cambridge Assessment. Throughout her PhD, Lina taught Psychometrics and research Design and Statistics to MSc and Doctorate students in different departments at City University as well as other Universities around London. Dr. El-Dika joined the Salem VA in Virginia from 2004 till 2008, where he served as attending physician, and as Acting Chief of Gastroenterology from 2005-2006, and then as Chief of Gastroenterology from 2006-2008. Currently, Dr. El-Dika is an Instructor at the University of Virginia, and doing an advanced fellowship in Endoscopic Ultrasound. Dr. El-Dika is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and by the American Board of Gastroenterology. Hala is a Public Health Nutritionist whose main area of research is the effect of nutritional status in pregnancy and infancy on immunity. After graduating from AUB with a BS in Nutrition and Dietetics in 1999, Hala obtained an MSc in Public Health Nutrition from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and went on to complete a PhD at St George’s, University of London (2004). Since 2005, she has been a Lecturer at LSHTM, where she taught Maternal and Child Nutrition and conducted research projects in The Gambia, Zanzibar and Cote d’Ivoire. Hala is also involved in an EU-funded trial investigating the safety and efficacy of iron fortification during pregnancy on anaemia and malaria outcomes in Kenya. Hala will be joining the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences as Assistant Professor in Community Nutrition.

Dr. Kamel Ghali earned his B.Sc. in Chemistry from AUB in 1983 and then joined Kansas State University (KSU) where he completed his B.Sc., M.Sc., and PhD in Mechanical Engineering in 1992. He was later awarded two postdoctoral fellowships, one at KSU in the field of air quality and indoor air velocity measurement and the other at Case Western Reserve University School of Engineering in the field of Biomedical Engineering working on human body modeling, particularly modeling of the human airway system. In 1995, Dr. Ghali accepted a job offer at Dar Al-Handasah Consultants, Shair and Partners in Beirut as a senior mechanical engineer and worked for two years on large scale projects. In 1997, he joined Beirut Arab University (BAU) as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2003 and to Professor in 2008. In addition to his full time appointment at BAU, Dr. Ghali taught several courses at AUB for the past 10 years and he collaborated on several research projects with AUB faculty members. He will be joining AUB Mechanical Engineering Department this fall as an Associate Professor. His research interests are in heat and moisture transport through clothed human beings, energy conservation in buildings and renewable energy. Dr. Ghali has 30 research articles published in peer-reviewed journals. He recently received a research award from the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers in a collaborative project with Faculty at AUB for their contribution on the design of chilled ceiling and displacement ventilation air-conditioning systems.

Coralie Hindawi studied law and earned a M.A. in European Law from Pierre Mend`es France University, Grenoble, France in 2000. Rabih Jabr was born in Lebanon. He received the B.E. degree in electrical engineering (with high distinction) from the American University of Beirut, Beirut, Lebanon, in 1997 and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Imperial College London, London, U.K., in 2000. From 2001 to 2009, he was with Electrical, Computer and Communication Engineering Department at Notre Dame University, Lebanon, where he served as the department chair for the past three years. Ibrahim Jamali is an American University of Beirut graduate having completed his BA in economics here. He then moved to Concordia University, Montreal, Canada, where he completed his M.A. and PhD in economics specializing in financial econometrics. Ibrahim's research interests are in financial econometrics, asset pricing and risk management. His recent research investigates the effect of monetary policy on the stock market as well as futures markets efficiency. Dr. Johns' (Ph.D., Philosophy, Stony Brook University, 2007) area of specialty is Early Modern philosophy. His dissertation, The Science of Right in Leibniz's Practical Philosophy, reveals the deontic, rather than consequentialist, foundations in Leibniz's practical philosophy. His article, "The Grounds of Right and Obligation in Leibniz and Hobbes" has been published in The Review of Metaphysics (March 2009), and another, "Deontic Foundations in Leibniz's Practical Philosophy" will be appearing in the next edition of Studia Leibnitiana. His current research focuses on Leibniz's relation to Modern moral theorists such as Locke, Pufendorf, and Kant, and to contemporary virtue theory. Dr. Kafoury received his Doctor of Science degree in Molecular Toxicology and Environmental Medicine from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in December of 1997. He was appointed a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Section of Pulmonary Diseases, Critical Care and Environmental Medicine at Tulane Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, Louisiana in January of 1998 through November of 1999 when he joined the Faculty at Jackson State University. He is an academic and a researcher. He is the founder and Director of the Air Pollution and Lung Biology and Toxicology Laboratory and the Head of the Asthma/Allergy sub-cluster at Jackson State University Biomedical Core. His Research focuses on air pollution and occupational exposure and health, including gene-environment interaction and cell function regulation. He has a considerable publication record on the effect of air pollutants, including ozone and diesel exhaust particles on lung cell function and the health of exposed workers and populations. His research was funded by research award grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the American Lung Association. His work has been presented at national and international conferences and published in journals in the field of Toxicology, Pulmonary Medicine, and Environmental Health. Dr. Kafoury is on the editorial board of Environmental Toxicology journal and a reviewer for many others. He served on the panel of experts of the Environmental Health Information Outreach Program at the National Library of Medicine, NIH. He was a reviewer for the American Heart Association and a member of the Asthma Summit, American Thoracic Society and American Lung Association of Mississippi. Rola Khishfe received a Ph.D. in science education from Illinois Institute of Technology (2004); M.A. in science education from AUB (1999); Certification in teaching secondary science from AUB (1995); and a B.S. in biology from AUB (1992).Rola has taught at both the school and university levels. Dr. Matthias Liermann studied mechanical engineering at the RWTH Aachen University, Germany. After graduation in 2004 he worked at the Institute for Fluid Power Drives and Controls at the RWTH Aachen University, specializing in analysis and design of hydraulic systems. Ali Termos received his Ph.D. in Economics from North Carolina State University in 2005, and a BA degree in Finance from Oklahoma City University in 1997. Prior to Joining AUB, Ali taught financial economics at Washington and Lee University (Virginia) and at the American University of Sharjah (United Arab Emirates). As a graduate student, Ali taught introductory and intermediate economics at North Carolina State University for four years as a teaching assistant. Nadine Sahyoun, PhD, RD is an Associate Professor in Nutritional Epidemiology in the Department of Nutrition and Food Science at the University of Maryland, College Park. Mayssun Succarie recently earned her Ph.D. in Anthropology of Education from the University of California at Berkeley. Haitham is an Industrial and Organizational (I/O) psychologist whose graduate work focused on the development and validation of a measure of culture and its impact on the workplace and the workforce, specifically the relationship between traditional work outcomes like stress, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment. His research interests also include examining the applicability of Western-developed tools and assessments in non-Western arenas including core I/O processes and concepts such as selection systems and instruments, performance management processes, as well as leadership and organizational justice. Upon completing his B.A. in Psychology from AUB, Haitham was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to pursue his research and graduate career in I/O at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. Throughout his tenure at USF Haitham taught courses on research methods, tests and measures, statistics, and social psychology. After obtaining his Ph.D. Haitham worked as an independent consultant for 2 years with the Home Depot’s Organizational Effectiveness team specializing in developing selection tools for positions across the company, employee opinion surveys, 360 performance evaluation, executive assessment and feedback, and employee assessments.

Hiam Khoury earned a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree in Civil Engineering from the Lebanese American University (LAU, Byblos, Lebanon, in 2004 and a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering (majoring in Construction Engineering and Management) from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, in 2005. Hiam has served as a Graduate Student Instructor for the course CEE 431 (Construction Contracting) for two semesters in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Michigan. In summers 2007 and 2008, Hiam had the opportunity to intern with the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and the US Army Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (CERL). Adam Klein earned his MA in English from San Francisco State University and his MFA in Creative Writing from The New School for General Studies. Carole Lévesque completed a technical degree in architecture in 1995 and an undergraduate degree in Environmental Design at the University of Quebec in Montreal in 1998. She then completed a M.Arch. degree at the University of British Columbia after which she practiced architecture in New York City. She completed her Ph.D. in the History and Theory of architecture at the University of Montreal in February 2009 where she made the study of temporary architecture her main focus. While working on her Ph.D., she taught architectural studios at the University of Montreal and at the University of Quebec in Montreal. She has continued to work as an architectural consultant and was one of the founding members of a non-profit organization based in Montreal promoting and realizing sustainable projects in local communities. Amongst the grants she received during her studies, she was the recipient for the Canadian Center for Architecture Archival Grant in 2007. Kathryn Lincoln earned her B.A. in English in 1997 and her M.A. in English in 2003 from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Darius Martin is a Macroeconomist with strong interests in inequality, business cycle theory, and minimum wage legislation. Darius earned his Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and B.S. from Syracuse University in New York. He is collaborating with Marek Kapicka on an analysis of medium-term fluctuations in labor supply in the United States. He taught for the past two years at both Reykjavik University, and Bifröst University in rural Iceland.

Dr. El-Merhi graduated with an MD degree from AUB in 1996. After which, he completed one year of internship at FM/AUBMC, and another year of internship in Internal Medicine at the Good Samaritan Hospitals in Baltimore, followed by full residency training in Diagnostic Radiology at Yale in New Haven Health System and at the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2002. Lokman I. Meho earned a B.A. and M.A. in Political Studies from AUB in 1991 and 1996, respectively. He also earned a PhD in Information and Library Science in December 2001 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Before joining AUB, he was a tenured Associate Professor and Director of the Master of Library Science program at the School of Library and Information Science at Indiana University Bloomington. Effective October 1, 2009, he will be the University Librarian at the AUB. Dr. Khalifeh graduated with MD Degree from Damascus Medical School in 1999. He completed one year of internship training in General Surgery and one year of Anatomic Pathology at AUBMC in 2002. After which, he joined the Department of Pathology at Wayne State University, where he completed his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology in 2006. The he subsequently joined MD Anderson Cancer Center where he completed two fellowships in Selective/Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology, and will complete a one year fellowship in Dermatopathology at University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Dr. Khalifeh has been involved in several basic and clinical research projects and his name appeared on multiple articles published in peer reviewed journals. Dr. Maalouf graduated with an MD degree from AUB in 2001. After completing one year of internship at FM/AUBMC in 2002, Dr. Maalouf travelled to the USA where he completed 3-year residency program in Psychiatry in 2005 and 2-year fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in 2007 at Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital/ McLean Hospital. Dr. Maalouf then moved to the University of Pittsburgh where he was an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry from 2007 to 2009 and has held an adjunct appointment since July 2009. Dr. Maalouf is certified in Psychiatry with a subspecialty certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Steven McNamara will be joining the Olayan School of Business as an Assistant Professor this fall. He is an attorney (J.D., Columbia 2003) who also holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy (Boston College 1998). Steve practiced corporate and tax law on Wall St. for five years, and also taught for a year at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane, Morocco. His academic interests are in corporate law, finance, and moral theory. Current research projects involve ethical issues in business practice and the role of moral phenomena such as trust and integrity in corporate legal theory, particularly in light of recent reconsiderations of fundamental theses of economics. When not reading law review articles and philosophical texts, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing guitar and drums, and seeing new places.

Nadine Mikati graduated from the American University of Beirut in 2006 with a B.S. degree in Nutrition and Dietetics as well as a minor in Biology. She then travelled to Michigan where she earned her R.D. (Registered Dietitian) credentials (2008) and her M.S degree in Nutrition and Food Science at Wayne State University, Michigan (2009). Nadine has worked as a clinical Dietitian at the Detroit Medical Center (DMC) and an instructor at Wayne State University for the past two years. Nadine has received many awards along the way, with the most recent one being: Registered Young Dietitian of the year (2009) from the American Dietetic Association (ADA). She has also been active members of the ADA, Michigan Dietetic Association (MDA) as well as the Southeastern Michigan Dietetic Association (SEMDA) since 2007. She was also on the board of directors for SEMDA: bylaws committee co-chair. Nadine is very eager to start her new venture here at AUB and she will be joining the Nutrition department as an Instructor.

Walid earned a B.E. in Computer and Communications Engineering from AUB in 2002 and a PhD in Operations Research from Virginia Tech in 2008. His research at Virginia Tech on the analysis and simulations of time-dependent networks was funded by the national science foundation. Walid?s research interests are in mathematical modeling, stochastic processes, simulation methodology, queueing systems and supply chain. He joined the Operations Analytics group at IBM in February of 2008 and as a senior consultant, he was involved in the design and implementation of mathematical and statistical models for business processes. He also served as a lecturer on simulation and statistics for practitioners at IBM. Walid will be joining the Business Information and Decision Systems Track at the Olayan School of Business

Dr. Nasr graduated with an MD degree from AUB in 1994. After which, he subsequently completed his residency training in Urology at FM/AUBMC in 2000, followed by one year fellowship in Urologic Oncology at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver in 2001. Since 2001, Dr. Nasr has been in private practice of Urology at Clemenceau Medical Center, the Rafic Hariri University Hospital, and other hospitals in town. Dr. Nasr has also been an Instructor of Anatomy at the University of Balamand since 2005. Dr. Nasr will be involved in the teaching, clinical, and research activities of the Urology Division, and will contribute to the teaching of Anatomy course as well.

Elias A. Rahal is an Instructor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the American University of Beirut. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Arizona and has previously occupied research and teaching positions at the American University of Beirut and the Saint George Hospital University Medical Center. Elias is a member of the Environmental Mutagenesis Society and his research interests include viral infections and virulence, microbial genetics in addition to cellular and microbial DNA repair mechanisms. He specializes in molecular approaches to studying pathways and cellular mechanisms and his work has been published in several peer-reviewed journals. Elias has presented his research in various international meetings and has earned the best presentation award at the 10th Annual Midwest Repair Symposium, Pittsburgh, 2008 and the Alexander Hollaender Award at the 39th Annual Environmental Mutagenesis Society Meeting, Puerto Rico, 2008. Elias is also highly interested in academia, education and the training of aspiring scientists.

Souha Riman earned a MA in English Language from AUB in 2008, a BS in Biology and a teaching diploma in teaching sciences in 2005. In 2008-2009, Souha taught at the American University of Beirut,the American University of Culture and Education and at Shouf National College. She also taught at AUB and worked in the writing center as a graduate student.

Dr. Walid Saffar earned his M.B.A. in finance from Laval University in 2003 and received his Ph.D. in finance at HEC Montreal in 2008. He taught at HEC Montreal and the University of Southern Indiana before joining the Olayan School of Business. He taught Business Finance, Real Estate Principals, Management of International investments, and international finance at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Dr. Saffar's research interests primarily cover privatization, political connections, auditor choice and corporate governance. His research has been published in mainstream journals such as the Journal of Accounting and Economics, and the Journal of Corporate Finance.

Randa Serhan was born in Beirut and raised in Kuwait. Growing up in a household with an academic father, her paths into academia and sociology were set early on. She received her BA in Sociology and Anthropology from the American University of Beirut with HighDistinction. She then went on to the University of Windsor, where she earned a MA in sociology and wrote a thesis on honor crimes. This was followed by two years of teaching introductory sociology at AUB before going on to Columbia University, where she earned another MA, a MPhil, and most recently a PhD in Sociology. Her dissertation committee was comprised of Charles Tilly (until his passing in 2008), Herbert Gans,Gil Eyal, Saskia Sassen, Rashid al-Khalidi, and Lila Abu-Lughod. The title of the work was: Suspended Community: An ethnographic study of Palestinian-Americans in New York and New Jersey. Randa was awarded the Lazarsfeld Fellowship for five year from Columbia University to pursue the PhD program in Sociology. She was also awarded the Cordier Fellowship at the School of International and Public Affairs (Columbia University) for two years (2007-2009). Aside from her three years of teaching assistanceships, she taught courses in immigration, introductory sociology, and theories of international politics. Her research interests include: immigration, citizenship, youth in the Arab world, collective action, and state-building.

Accomplished Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Medical Anthropologist with extensive clinical, teaching, program development and administrative experience; focusing on areas that include maternal child health, adolescent, family and community health in the US and internationally. Instrumental in developing healthcare programs in Armenia and other countries in Eastern Europe that focus on critical public health issues. Secured numerous grants to help expand pediatric care throughout the US. Dr. Arafat Tfayli received his medical doctorate degree with distinction from the American University of Beirut in 1995. He did his internal medicine residency training at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and spent another year there as chief resident. He then completed his fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at Georgetown University including one year as Chief Fellow. Dr. Tfayli also did a one year fellowship in Bone Marrow Transplantation at Georgetown University. Since 2002, Dr. Tfayli has been a faculty member at Oklahoma University where he is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine. He is also the director of their hematology/oncology fellowship program. Dr. Tfayli is board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Medical Oncology. Dr. Tfayli has special interest in breast cancer and bone marrow transplantation. He has conducted several studies in these areas and is the author of several peer-reviewed papers. Effective September 1, 2009, Dr. Tfayli will join the Faculty of Medicine as Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology, and will be an integral member of the Naif K. Basile Cancer Institute.

Bachelor of Architecture from Kansas State University (2001); Master of Science in Architecture and Urban Design from Columbia University (2008). He has taught at Parsons New School for Design and Chongqing University in China. He was a visiting critic at Parsons, University of New Mexico, University of Toronto, and Columbia University GSAPP. He was awarded the William Kinne Fellowship in 2008 for his project, Wading the Waters: Exploring Malawi's Fragile Infrastructure of Water and Health. Oussama Wazni, MD, is currently the Cardiac Electrophysiology Labs Director at the Cleveland Clinic. He is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology. He specializes in electrophysiology with special interest in atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia ablation. Dr. Wazni received a Bachelor's degree in Sciences/Biology from the American University of Beirut, continuing there to complete his medical degree, graduating with distinction in the top 5 percent of his class. He was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. After completing his residency at Cleveland Clinic, Dr Wazni received a fellowship in cardiology from the University of Texas, Houston, where he became Fellow of the Year. He then returned to Cleveland Clinic for fellowships in cardiology and electrophysiology, becoming Chief Fellow in electrophysiology. He was a finalist in the Young Investigator Award presented by the American College of Cardiology in 2004 and, that same year, won the Clinical Research Award from the Robert and Suzanne Tomsich Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Wazni is principal investigator in several ongoing research studies related to atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia ablation, genetics of ventricular tachycardia, anticoagulation management in patients undergoing ablation for chronic atrial fibrillation, and long term followup after AF ablation. Widely published in peer-reviewed journals, Dr. Wazni is on the editorial board of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and the Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology. He served as the Abstract Session Chair for the Heart Rhythm Society's Scientific Sessions in 2005-2009.

Neil Yorke-Smith is an Assistant Professor of Business Information and Decision Systems at the Suliman S. Olayan School of Business, American University of Beirut. His research interests include planning and scheduling, preference modelling, machine learning and data mining, agents, and their real-world applications. Previously, Dr. Yorke-Smith was a Visiting Lecturer at Stanford University and a Research Scientist at SRI International, where he led design of personalized intelligent agent technology. Dr. Yorke-Smith received his Ph.D. from Imperial College London with thesis research focused on handling uncertainty in business applications of constraint-based reasoning.
