      • NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS - 2010

        February 2010:

        On February 15th, OGC hosted the Director of the Center of Scientific Review of the National Institute of Health (NIH), Dr. Toni Scarpa over a lunch meeting where he met with various research groups of different disiplines at AUB to discuss potential research ideas and receive feedback on proposal criteria and review.

        On February 16th and 17th, OGC hosted Dr. Marry Ellen Sheridan, Co- chair of Business and Operations Advisory Committee at the National Science Foundation (NSF) and former Associate Vice President for Research Administration at the University of Chicago. Dr. Sheridan gave a workshop for faculty administrators and the Office of Comptroller's staff on Financial Management of Research Grants. the workshop entitled:" Managing Sponsored Programs: Fundamentals and Post Award Issues in Research Administration", provided participants with information on financial management and good business practices of sponsored programs.

        In February 2010, OGC also coordinated a presentation for the Faculty of Health Sciences wherby Dr. Sheridan gave a two hour presentation on the fundamantals of budget preparation and costing issues and the roles and responsibilities of faculty members in project management.

      • News and Announcements - 2009

        October 2009:

        On October 21st and 22nd OGC hosted a two day workshop on "Managing Sponsored Programs: Pre-and Post-award Issues in Research Administration" which was given by Dr. Mary Ellen Sheridan, Co-chair of Business and Operations Advisory Committee at the National Science Foundation (NSF). The workshop targeted researchers and research administrators who are involved in assisting professors in managing their grants, and provided attendants with extensive and valuable information on managing their grants, and provided attendants with extensive and valuable information on managing sponsored research. The first day of the workshop took off with an introductory speech from Provost Dallal, who stated that this workshop comes in the framework of OGC's outreach activities to faculty members which aims at not only encouraging the culture of research at the University but also insuring that the University is in compliance with sponsor regulations and conditions, and insuring ethical conduct of research.

        October2009:

        On October 7th and 8th, OGC hosted a presentation on the research and funding priorities for Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF). QNRF was represented by its Executive Director, Dr. Abdul-Sattar Al Taie, its Deputy Director, Dr. Nabil Salem, and the Social Studies Program Manager, Dr. Khalid Al-Quradaghi. The first day encompassed a presentation on the flagship program of the Fund: "The National Priorities Research Program (NPRP)" and was attended by researchers from AUB, the Lebanese University, the Lebanese American University, St. Joseph University, Notre Dame University, University of Balamand, Haigazian University, and the Beirut Arab University and other governmental and non-governmental agencies. On the second day, QNRF representatives held individual meetings with representatives of Lebanese universities.  

        April 2009:

        On the 9th and 16th of April 2009, OGC gave two hands on training workshops on "Tools for funding Research Support". The workshops introduced faculty members to the various available tools and resources for funding opportunities as well as trained them on how to use the two research databases: InfoEd International and Research Professional.

        March 2009:

        On March 18, 2009, OGC gave a presentation on "Research Application Procedures and Tools for funding Research Support" to the Faculty of Family Medicine. The presentation was attended by 20 faculty members.

        On March 6, 2009, Technology Transfer Unit - OGC and ARCHITREE organized a workshop on "Intellectual Property: Copyright". The workshop was attended by over 50 professional artists, designers and creators from industry, and AUB faculty members.

      • News and Announcements - 2008

        November 2008: 

        The Lebanese National Council for Scientific Research (CNRS) has approved to provide five year support to AUB for the establishment of two collaborative research units: Air Quality Unit and a Water Quality Assessment and Management Unit. The Air Quality Unit will be headed by Dr. Najat Saliba and Dr. Alan Shihadeh and the Water Unit will be headed Dr. May Jurdi, Dr. May Massoud, and Dr. Sami Ramia.

        February 2008:

        In line with its mission to support and encourage faculty members in soliciting research funding, OGC organized and held a “Proposal and Budget Preparation” workshop which held on February 15, 2008.

        Inaugurated by Dr. Peter Heath, the workshop was presented by Associate Director, Ms. Rosie Nasser, and was attended by 70 participants including professors from different faculties and with various academic positions, and graduate and research assistants.  The workshop featured four sessions:
        a)  Pre-Proposal Preparation
        b)  Writing Proposals
        c)  Budget Preparation
        d)  Proposal Review Process  

         As part of its outreach activities, the OGC plans to organize future workshops which aim at encouraging faculty members in applying for research funding from external sponsors.

      • News and Announcements - 2007

        October 2007:

        OGC Open House: At the start of academic year 2007-2008, the Office of Grants and Contracts (OGC) organized and invited faculty members to an Open House. The Open House was held on the 3rd, and 5th, of October 2007, whereby professors from all faculties were introduced to the tools for searching for research funding, met with OGC staff, and learned about the functions of the office and how it can assist them in administering their research grants.

        On July 6, 2007, a presentation was held at UNESCO: "Understanding the 7 th Framework Program of the European Commission " .
