4. Questions Related to LNCSR

Q. What should be included in the final report to the Lebanese National Council for Scientific Research (LNCSR)?

A. When preparing a final report to the LNCSR, the investigator should give a detailed account of the research findings and describe the outcome of the project. The report should include:

a) The title of the project (in English and Arabic) and the start date and duration of the project as stated on the LNCSR contract,
b) A description of the carried out activities and methods,
c) The objectives which were accomplished and outcomes which were reached, according to what was initially stated in the proposal. Include the obstacles which were faced, if any and how were they dealt with.
d) A description of the role of all project staff (principal investigator, co-principal investigator(s), research assistant(s), and other staff who were involved in the project implementation and as stated in the proposal).
e) List of publications that were published in scientific journals, with a copy of the articles as published. If papers were presented in any conference and workshops, they should be included as an attachment to the report.

All reports and publications should include an acknowledgment to LNCSR. Please note that a one-page document is not considered a report.

Q. What is needed or what are the procedures in applying to LNCSR?

A. Please see the section on LNCSR Proposal Writing Guidelines.

Q. Do I have to add the institutional overhead when preparing an LNCSR budget?

A. No, LNCSR does not allow for institutional overhead.

Q. Can I apply for a new grant if I already have a current grant from the LNCSR?

A. No, the LNCSR will not accept an application if a PI has an on-going LNCSR grant. 

Q. If a PI has a grant under Associated Research Unit can he apply to LNCSR's regular research program?

A. No, the LNCSR does not allow for that.

Q. Can I modify my grant budget after the contract has been signed?

A. Yes, one can do a budget re-allocation after receiving LNCSR's written approval. The PI should send an e-mail to OGC requesting a budget reallocation with a clear justification, in turn OGC will submit a formal request to the LNCSR.

Q. Can one renew his project and request additional funds?
 
A. If the researcher received an award for a period of two years, the project may be renewed for a second year upon reporting of satisfactory scientific results and findings. However, if a PI has initially requested a one year period for his/her project, the LNCSR will not approve its renewal for another year.

Q. What is the procedure for requesting a renewal for my project?
 
A. To renew an LNCSR project, Investigators are requested to submit the following documents to the Office of Grants and Contracts:
1. One original completed and signed LNCSR Renewal Application Form.
2. Two copies of the progress report. The progress report should include a description of what has been achieved so far as a result of LNCSR support and the project's progress and findings and outputs. If any abstracts, articles, or any other publications have been produced they should be included within the report as attachments.

Q. What is the budget limit one can request per year?
 
A. The Council allows for a total of 14,000,000 L.L. per year for projects under the Humanities and Social Science program, and a total of 18,000,000 L.L. per year for projects under its Sciences program.

Q. What is needed or what are the procedures in applying for No-Cost Extension?
 
A. If investigators need extra time to complete their projects and final reports, they can request a no-cost extension, one can ask for a maximum of six months. Investigators need to send an email to the Office of Grants and Contracts requesting a no-cost extension providing clear justification for their need to extend. OGC will in turn write a formal request letter to the LNCSR.

Q. What is the deadline for applying to LNCSR?

A. The deadline for submitting applications to the LNCSR, is usually announced ahead of time, by the Office of Grants and Contracts.
