Mission
The mission of the track is to provide educational programs and pursue research activities in the areas of information systems and decision systems with particular emphasis on applications in all functional areas of management related to both to the public and the private sectors.
Teaching and Curricula
Complexity of the new global, digital and knowledge-based, economy requires a new type of manager; one who is able to deploy sharp problem solving skills; whose solid theoretical preparation enables him to follow and assimilate rapid developments, both technological and conceptual; who understands tools and techniques and uses them effectively. The business Information and Decision Systems Curriculum, at both the BBA and MBA levels, is designed to equip students with the requisite skills, tools, habits of mind and attitudes.
Undergraduate Program (BBA)
In Addition to the 42 credits of general undergraduate requirements from outside the school and the 39 credits required in the business core (ACCT 210, ACCT 215, BUSS 211, BUSS 215, BUSS 230, BUSS 239, BUSS 240, BUSS 245, BUSS 248, BUSS 249, DCSN 200, DCSN 205, FINA 210, INFO 200, MKTG210, and MNGT 215), the track requires all students concentrating in Business Information and Decision Systems to take any combination of elective courses totaling 9 credits from the Decision Systems courses (Denoted by DCSN) and the Information Systems courses (Denoted by INFO).
Research
On a solid foundation in management science, operations research and computer science, faculty members undertake fundamental research on a set of important practical problems that arise in areas like: Decision Support Systems; E Business; Facility Layout; Knowledge and Organizational Management; Production Planning and Control; Project Management; Transportation; and Design, Management and Implementation of information Systems.
Career Paths
Increasingly, Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of companies and corporations are being drawn from the ranks of people with decision and information systems backgrounds. Already, they reportedly constitute the largest group among CEOs. Moreover, a growing number of companies is becoming acutely aware of the importance of the knowledge function in today’s knowledge economy. This increasing awareness is being manifested in the formation of knowledge management teams or departments, establishing appropriate processes for that purpose, and appointing Chief Knowledge Officers. In addition, the decisive role of operations in wealth creation is now generally acknowledged; hence the pre-eminence of the Chief Operations Officer.
By emphasizing skills of analysis, synthesis and problem solving, and giving students ample chances to work at the cutting edge of the information and decision technologies, the Business and Information System curriculum equips the student with intellectual and attitudinal wherewithal for reaching the top. Moreover, the pervasive applicability and the versatility of the tools and techniques learnt prepares the graduate for varied career paths that may pass through any and all of the functional areas of management.

The impact of modern decision and information technologies on all organizations, wether public or private, profit seeking or not, has been so huge that some pundits go as far as maintaining that deployment of effective and efficient information and decision systems is the one and only route to success and competitiveness I today’s globalized knowledge economy. Whatever, the case may be, there is no doubt that the success stories of business information and decision systems have been breathtakingly spectacular.
