Once your manuscript has been accepted for publication by AUB
Press, your manuscript must be formally turned over to the Press according to
the following guidelines for production purposes:
Manuscripts
must be submitted electronically on a 3.5
diskette or CD, or sent as an e-mail attachment using Microsoft Word.
A hard copy must accompany the
electronic version. Ensure that the print is clear and dark and is printed on
white A4 or 8-1/2 x 11 inch paper.
The text must be
double-spaced. Do not set margins or use indents, tabs, or extra returns at the
end of lines as these will have to be taken out by the editor.
Also do not insert graphics into the Word document; embedded
graphics are not usable.
Illustration captions must be provided
in a caption list (in addition to the illustrations themselves) so the designer
can use it to keep track of illustrations. This must be provided in both hard
copy and on disk.
Where credit must be included for an
illustration, a line containing source information should be added in
parentheses at the end of the caption. The full name should be used rather than
abbreviations.
All tables are to be treated
as artwork and
kept separate from the text. The author must place a table on a separate sheet
of paper and indicate where the table appears in the text.
If a
table comes from a source other than the author, the credit must be cited in
the caption labeling it as source.
Illustrations and
tables must be referred to in the text as Table 2-1 or Figure 2-1, etc. Do not
use references such as the table below or the following
table.
When using equations or mathematical symbols,
authors should consult the Chicago Manual of Style as a guide for mathematical
symbols and placements.
For symbols that do not appear on the keyboard or in a
program, the author must write each of them in the manuscript legibly with a dark pen
and identify the symbol the first time it appears on each page.
Supply an author biography page, a preface, dedication or acknowledgment page,
and the table of contents. The author biography should include a brief
biographical description of the author highlighting professional training and
accomplishments. The preface should inform the reader what the book is about
and what is to be gained by reading it. The acknowledgment page is not
necessary, but should be included if the author feels indebted to someone for
help with the books contents or wishes to acknowledge someones
support.
The author is not expected to supply the index for the
books, but can write a glossary and appendices if they are needed or desired. A
bibliography should be supplied when applicable and should be as concise and
accurate as possible.
The author should produce three copies of
the manuscript; one should be sent to the AUB Press and two copies should be kept
on file with the author. The AUB Presss copy should be as complete as
possible: text, illustrations, tables, front matter, appendices, disks, etc.,
should be included in one shipment to the AUB Press. The pages should not be
stapled together; a bindery clip or rubber band is better.
Finished artwork and other hard-to-replace items should be insured.
Shipment to AUB Press should be made via a shipping service that
can trace packages via the internet.
