Constructed in 1958 and named after the seashell, Murex Hall is the smallest in size among the female residences and, hence, provides its residents with a cozy atmosphere, just like your own home.
Murex Hall is located in the lower campus close to the area of Ain Al-Mreisseh. It overlooks the Mediterranean Sea and the attractive Corniche on the one side, and it overlooks part of a green hill and the Basic Science Building (Medical School) on the other side. It is adjacent to the Mary Dodge Hall.
The building consists of five floors and a basement. The basement is used for storage purposes.
The ground floor, which has two entrances to the building and leads into a large balcony, houses the reception area and a lounge where residents socialize, watch television, receive guests, and use computers with internet access.
Each of the remaining floors has eleven rooms, except for the first floor, which has eight and the head resident's quarters as well. Each floor also has a wet area with three showers and three toilets, in addition to a utility room equipped with heavy-duty washing machines and dryers, ovens, refrigerators, and irons. Murex Hall is the first dormitory to form its own society, founded during the academic year 1995. The Murex Society has been the framework through which Murex residents have organized a series of events over the past few years. These events included participation in the Outdoors (the annual spring fair), bake sales, hiking trips, and the like.
Other social activities held annually include a reception for returning and new students in October, a New Year party, gatherings on different holy and secular occasions, exam period food and refreshment events, and an open house once each semester during which residents can receive male and female guests, where they enjoy cake and music, followed by a big dancing party in the lounge.
The cheerful and welcoming attitude of the residents and the staff never goes unnoticed. Come and see for yourselves.
