President Reagan Welcomes Ann Kerr

On Thursday, May 24th, President Ronald Reagan and Vice-president, George Bush welcomed Mrs. Ann Kerr. wife of AUB's former President, to the White House. Mrs. Kerr was accompanied by her son, Steven, and Najeeb Halaby, Chairman of AUB's Board of Trustees. Halaby had arranged the meeting to coincide with Mrs., Kerr's visit to the Washington/Baltimore area to receive an honorary degree for the late Malcolm Kerr from his Alma Mater, Johns Hopkins University.

Mrs. Kerr first met Vice- President Bush, who extended his condolences and demonstrated a genuine interest in AUB's welfare. He expressed the hope that stability would return to Lebanon and that AUB would survive the surrounding political turmoil. When he asked Mrs. Kerr what help was needed, she responded that the university was In great financial need and asked for his personal assistance in raising funds.

The Vice-President then escorted the entire group to meet President Reagan in the Oval Office. The President also expressed his sympathies to Mrs. Kerr and voiced his support for the university. Mrs. Kerr took the opportunity to promote AUB's cause and to reiterate, its need for financial assistance. Both the President and Vice-President offered their willingness to help AUB maintain its historic mission and continue its current programs.
