Exposed susceptible persons are not necessarily protected by live virus vaccine administration. However if any individual was not infected by the current exposure, post-exposure immunization will provide protection against subsequent exposure.

Vaccination to Prevent Mumps

Administration of live Mumps virus vaccine is recommended for exposed male adults born after 1956 who have a negative history of Mumps or Mumps vaccination.
