Health Insurance Plan
Difference between HIP and UHS

  • The Health Insurance Plan (HIP) is the insurance plan covering employees and students at the University. It sets the rules and conditions of health coverage, premium and reimbursement for all members. HIP reviews and audits prescriptions, referrals, hospital admissions and bills to ensure proper adherence to its conditions of coverage and ensure financial success of the plan.

  • The University Health Services (UHS) are the primary care providers for the plan. They include the Gulbenkian clinic on campus and the Farm clinic (AREC). UHS is administratively under the department of Family Medicine and the Faculty of Medicine while HIP is an administrative integral part of the Personnel Department.

The UHS doctors and staff are entrusted by HIP to implement the insurance regulations. They are also committed to providing the best care commanded by their morals and expertise.
