Notification of Overdue Materials

Library materials are due on the date indicated on the date due slip as stated when borrowed, or as noted on the online renewal screen in My Library Account. Kindly note that the library is sending reminders and overdue notices as a courtesy. Failure to receive the notices does not relieve the borrower of the obligation to return or renew the borrowed materials by the due date, does not justify a reduction in fines or even exempt the borrower from paying late fees.

You are responsible for renewing your materials twice online, or in person, at the Circulation Desk in the libraries, after clearing any outstanding fines and overdue items.

For Online Renewal go to My Account

  • Enter your Name, Barcode Number, and if you are a FIRST TIME USER skip the Password field.
  • Type again your name, barcode, leave the Password field blank, then enter a NEW Password and reconfirm it. (The password can be any alpha-numeric string between 8 and 30 characters in length, special characters are not accepted).

Items may be renewed online two times ONLY if no one else has reserved them. if you have any problem in renewing your items, contact the Circulation Desk at ext. 2618/19.

For any overdue item(s) you will receive the first email notice on the day of the overdue. Library will send up to three overdue notices.

      • If the item is not returned within two days of the overdue date, fines will start accumulating until the item is returned.
      • If the item is not returned, you may not borrow or renew until your record is cleared.
      • If the item is not returned after you receive the three overdue notices, the item will be considered lost and you will be charged the cost of that item. Cost will be deducted from your salary (Faculty andStaff), or added to your statement of fees (Student).

Overdue fines is: LL1,500 per day

      • For any unpaid fine, you will receive up to three email notices from the library until fines are paid. After the above notices, if fines are not paid, they:
          • will be added to your Statement of Fees (Student).
          • will be deducted from your salary at the end of the month (Staff).
      • If you have unpaid fines (more than LL50,000), you may not register until your record is cleared.

      • You are responsible for returning borrowed items to the library from which they were borrowed.

Reservations and Holds

If the item you want is out, you may reserve it through the Library Catalog.

      • When the item becomes available, you will receive an e-mail notice from the library. The item will be held for you, in the library, for 3 days.

Recall Policy

If requested by another borrower, the University Libraries reserve the right to recall borrowed books after at least two weeks of use. When a library material is recalled, a recall notice will automatically be sent to the borrower’s AUB email informing him/her that the material is needed by another borrower and asking him/her to return it within one week. Failure to return a recalled item within the seven days period will incur a fine of $1.00 per day (faculty exempted), and the patron will be blocked from borrowing until the item is returned. When the borrowed item is returned to the library, the requesting user is notified by email and the item is put on hold for him for no longer that 72 hours.

      • Lost books: replacement charges are determined according to the price of the item, shipping, processing, and binding.
      • Damaged items: to cut, tear, mark or write on library materials is strictly forbidden. Users caught doing so will be charged accordingly and may risk losing their borrowing privileges.
