Programs - Power Of Planting

Research on biodiversity in Lebanon has led to a conclusion that Lebanon’s forests and woodlands consist of more than 100 tree and shrub species. However, the focus in reforestation relied on limited kinds of native tree species, namely cedar, pine, and cypress, as well as introduced species such as eucalyptus. Research being conducted presently is beginning to shed light on how the current trends in reforestation are contributing to the impoverishment of the composition of our forests and woodlands and will make them more susceptible to disease and stress from climate change impacts. Ibsar’s Power of Planting program launched the “Seeds of Hope, trees for tomorrow” campaign to raise both awareness as well as funds used towards restoring degraded landscapes and ecosystems, preserve native species through their gradual reintegration into the wild, while bringing people back in touch with nature in the process.
