The Health Physics Services Division provides the following routine services to departments

• Issuance and review of policies and standard operating procedures pertaining to the use of ionizing radiation in the various departments.
• Monthly contamination surveys of all laboratory and radiation work areas.
• Personnel monitoring for radiation exposure of all employees whose duties involve the use, or the presence around ionizing radiation.
• Radioactive Waste Management (Collection and Disposal)
• Receipt, checking, and delivery of every package containing ionizing radiation sources.
• Quality Control on all radiation detectors and counters.
• Liquid Scintillation Counting for all researchers.
• Review and approval of all studies/researches that involve the use of ionizing radiation prior to being approved by the Institutional Review Board or the Office of Grants and Contracts.

In Addition to the routine services, the Health Physics Services performs the following activities:

• Emergency Response.
• Inspection on laboratories and radiation work areas for compliance with the University Radiation Safety Regulations, and the requirements of the Lebanese Atomic Energy Commission, the Joint Commission International (JCI) and the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
• Approval of all purchase requests of radioactive materials prior to being processed by the purchasing department.
• Responds to queries pertaining to radiation safety from various departments.
