The Customs Clearance Division is responsible for handling the clearance of all shipments and materials imported to AUB from abroad.

The main responsibility of the division is to:

  1. Collaborate and coordinate with the clearance agents appointed at the Seaport and Airport for quick delivery of goods to the clients.
  2. Provide and assure that all documents required by the customs authorities are available.
  3. Provide legal forms and letters to get governmental authorization and approval for clearing various types of shipments.
  4. Declaring the nature of goods to the customs authorities, which, accordingly, apply customs tariff.
  5. Assist faculty members in obtaining research materials needed for educational purposes.
  6. Advise newly appointed faculty members toward clearing their personal effects belongings, and furniture shipments to Lebanon.

    Clients' coordination with this division and close follow up shall ensure a smooth clearing process for their shipments.

Foreign Order Process Summary

  • Receive purchase order from receiving
  • Receive airway bill (AWB), match and attach related purchase order(s) to the shipment .
  • Prepare the documents for each shipment together with the declaration of the nature of goods and commodities.
  • Forward all prepared documents to the clearing agent.
  • Follow up with clearing agent for any additional documents requested by the customs.
  • Clearance of goods: Arrange delivery to AUB receiving area, except for perishable or bulky items that are directly delivered to customer.
  • Report shortage or damage to the purchasing department.
  • Receive related invoices from clearing agents, acknowledge them and send them finally to the comptroller's office sealed for payment or final settlement.
