CAMES hosted a discussion with the Rt. Hon David Miliband, MP, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, United Kingdom on November 19, 2008 in Bathish Auditorium, West Hall. Mr. Miliband answered questions from AUB students and faculty about Britain's role in the Middle East.

Professor Sami Zubaida, Emeritus Professor of Politics and Sociology at the University of London's Birkbeck College, and Research Associate at the London Middle East Institute of the School of Oriental and African Studies, spent two weeks at CAMES as the Shaykh Zayid Distinguished Visiting Scholar in October 2008. Professor Zubaida gave two public lectures entitled: “What is Ottoman Cuisine and where is the Mediterranean?” and “Cosmopolitans, Nationalists and Fundamentalists in the Modern Middle East”.
