Founded in 1866, the American University of Beirut is a teaching-centered research university based on the American liberal arts model of higher education. AUB has over 8,000 students and 800 faculty members. Fadi Ghorayeb is chief of protection and security advisor at the American University of Beirut (AUB) and retired brigadier general of the Lebanese Armed Forces.
He joined the Lebanese Army forces from 1980 till 2018. During his military service, he served as chief commander of the Military Academy, chief director of Recruitment and Reserve, member of the Military Court of Cassation, officer of the Department of Education and Training, chief of staff (Infantry – 6th Brigade), commander of the Close Protection Battalion in the Republican Guard, chief of the Investigation Department at the Military Police, trainer of the Infantry Company Cadet at the Military Academy, leader at the Infantry Company and platoon leader.
Fadi managed the close protection and escort units with more than 70 visits by foreign leaders to Lebanon and with multiple international conferences and summits in Lebanon.
During his career, he participated in several military training courses focused on anti-terrorism; close protection; coordination between protocol, press, and protection departments; battalion commander; etc.
Over his many years of service, Fadi received numerous awards and medals including three War Medals, three Battle Wounds Medals, National Unity Medal, Dawn of the South Medal, Military Valor Medal, Conference Memorial Medal, Officer France Order of Merit, Third Grade Ukraine Order of Merit, Bulgarian Order Madara Horseman, Second Class with Swords, Hungarian Order of Merit, Grade Officer's Cross, Ordem Nacional do Cruzeiro Comandeur Brazil, First Grade Lebanese Order of Merit, Military of Honor - Silver Grade, National Order of the Cedar - Commander Grade, and Medal of the Fight against Terrorism.
