Mary Jaber Nachar is the first female vice president for administration and chief of staff at the American University of Beirut (AUB). With an extensive managerial portfolio and deep institutional knowledge, she has served in several leadership positions at AUB over the last 20 years. She currently oversees the university’s operation through all units, including protection, benefits, human resources, communications, physical plant, facilities, strategic planning and process improvement, enterprise risk management, and the Equity/Title IX office.

Jaber holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in business administration from AUB and is a certified professional in human resources and compensation (CPHRC).

She joined AUB in 2001 to hold several key administrative posts, beginning at the office of the vice president for administration and soon after as senior HR officer with the VP for human resources for more than seven years. In early 2013, she was selected to assist the chief operating officer (COO). Upon the appointment of Dr. Fadlo R. Khuri as AUB president in 2015, Jaber became chief of staff, working within the leadership team and with key constituents across a broad spectrum of the university. In 2017, and until she was appointed as vice president in 2020, she served as associate vice president for administration and was able to develop and transform units through a new structure and streamlined processes.

Vice President Mary Jaber has been bridging the gaps between administrative strategy and execution and shepherding AUB’s strategic plan into implementation. She builds strong collaborative relationships in the areas under her purview as well as across the university and medical center, spanning both academic and administrative units, as well as with the Workers and Staff Syndicate, AUB’s Debs Center in New York, AUB Mediterraneo, and the university’s Board of Trustees. She has played a leadership role in AUB’s strategic planning team and has helped develop the new campus master plan and university strategic plan VITAL 2030.
