  Founded in 1866, the American University of Beirut is a teaching-centered research university based on the American liberal arts model of higher education. AUB has over 8,000 students and 800 faculty members. The University encourages freedom of thought and expression and seeks to graduate men and women committed to creative and critical thinking, lifelong learning, personal integrity, civic responsibility, and leadership.

  AUB is accredited in the US by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and includes six faculties: Arts and Sciences, Medicine, Engineering and Architecture, Agricultural and Food Sciences, Health Sciences, and Business. AUB offers more than 130 programs leading to bachelor's, master's, MD, and PhD degrees. The main language of instruction is English.

Fouad Es-Said

A trustee since 2018, Fouad Es-Said (BA ’96) is the Chairman and CEO of Transmed, a family business founded in 1946 specializing in the distribution of FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) across the Levant, Gulf, Africa and Turkey. After earning his bachelor’s degree, Es-Said worked at Procter & Gamble in finance and sales in Geneva and London before moving to Dubai to join Transmed as an Account Executive. After three years in the UAE, he relocated to the company’s headquarters in Beirut where he served as General Manager of the Lebanese subsidiary. In 2012, following several assignments, Es-Said was promoted to Chairman and CEO. Generations of the Es-Said family have attended AUB, starting with Es-Said’s grandfather Fuad Es-Said (BBA ’34). Fouad Es-Said is also a board member of The Social Welfare Institutions and is an alumnus of London Business School.
