  Founded in 1866, the American University of Beirut is a teaching-centered research university based on the American liberal arts model of higher education. AUB has over 8,000 students and 800 faculty members. The University encourages freedom of thought and expression and seeks to graduate men and women committed to creative and critical thinking, lifelong learning, personal integrity, civic responsibility, and leadership.

AUB offers more than 130 programs leading to bachelor's, master's, MD, and PhD degrees. The main language of instruction is English.

Tania Issa Semaan

A trustee since 2018, Tania Issa Semaan is a co-founder and director of the Semaan Foundation, established in 2011 by her late husband Maroun Semaan to support philanthropic activities in the fields of education, healthcare and social welfare. In 2017, AUB’s Faculty of Engineering and Architecture was named after Maroun Semaan following a transformative gift made by the Semaan Foundation. Tania is the Chairman of Blu Stone Management Ltd, a Dubai based Investment Firm. The company is invested across different geographies and covers a wide range of sectors. Semaan is involved in many charitable and philanthropic organizations that contribute to education and cultural enrichment throughout the world. She attended Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois.
