William Zoghbi, MD

A trustee since 2019 and an AUB graduate (BS ‘76). He is the Chair of the Department of Cardiology at Houston Methodist Hospital, the Elkins Family Distinguished Chair in Cardiac Health at Houston Methodist DeBakey Heart and Vascular Center, and Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College and the Institute of Academic Medicine. Zoghbi has been affiliated with the American College of Cardiology (ACC), the American Heart Association and the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) since 1985. He served as President of the ASE in 2008-2009 and President of the American College of Cardiology in 2012-2013, and on the ACC Board of Trustees from 2001-2015. He has also served on the Board of the World Heart Federation from 2014-2015. He was awarded the 2004 Richard Popp Excellence in Teaching Award by the American Society of Echocardiography, and Master of the ACC in 2013. He received the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Lebanese Order of Physicians and the National Order of the Cedar from the President of the Republic of Lebanon in 2012. In 2014, he received the Research Merit Award from the Interamerican Society of Cardiology. Zoghbi is a 2018 recipient of Ben Qurrah award, the highest honor given by the National Arab American Medical Association (NAAMA) Houston Chapter. He was awarded ASE Meritorious Service Award in June 2023. Dr. Zoghbi is a graduate of Meharry Medical College (MD ‘79) and he did his postgraduate training at Baylor College of Medicine.​
