Tobacco use remains the leading preventable cause of death throughout much of the world. Waterpipe tobacco use - formerly a traditional habit among men in the Eastern Mediterranean has spread across the globe. In this Third International Conference on Waterpipe Tobacco Smoking Research, AUB and its partners will share recent scholarship on waterpipe tobacco smoking with intent to inform practice, policy and regulation and enhance public health and population wellbeing. A conference organized by The Lancet-American University of Beirut Commission on Syria: Health in Conflict and the Safeguarding Health in Conflict Coalition took place at the United Nations General Assembly on September 22. Co-sponsored by The Permanent Missions of Canada, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Kingdom of Spain and the United Kingdom, the event, Protecting Health Care in Armed Conflict, addressed a sharp rise in the number of attacks on healthcare workers and institutions in combat zones. FHS SRC Kicks Off its Activities with a Hiking Trip to Ras El Metn
University is about meeting new people, discovering new places, and enriching your ideas. FHS students and faculty members gathered on the second week of the Fall semester for a hiking trip to Ras El Metn. The first activity for this semester held by FHS SRC on Sunday, September 17, was attended by more than 30 faculty members and students. AUB establishes the first Global Health Institute in Lebanon and the region
In a message to the AUB community, AUB President Fadlo Khuri announced on July 19 the establishment of AUB’s Global Health Institute (GHI), the first such institute in the region.
