A list of volunteering opportunities and significant events prepared by CCECS is shared with students on a bi-weekly basis. Scholars are also encouraged to propose their own activities with community based organizations in their respective hometowns that will be vetted and approved as per applicable USAID guidelines prior to engagement. Students can participate in volunteering activities on a short-term basis and/or long-term basis (throughout the semester).
Students are encouraged to participate in significant events including lectures, seminars, and conferences related to civic issues. These will be counted towards students' civic engagement requirements.
Volunteering Requirements
HES students must complete a minimum of 15 hours of meaningful volunteering rotations per semester with vetted community-based organizations.
At the end of the fall and spring semesters, students with incomplete deliverables will be notified and requested to fulfill their remaining required volunteering requirements during the inter-semester breaks (winter break to complete deliverable related to the fall, and summer break to complete deliverable related to the spring). Students who fail to meet the volunteering rotations requirements during the academic year will be subject to reprimand from the HES Management Team. In addition, the required volunteering hours must be successfully completed prior to implementation of Community Service Project (CSP) on-site. Students undergoing implementation of their CSPs will not be required to volunteer during this period, upon receiving approval from CCECS team.
Reporting Deliverables
In order for a volunteering activity to be counted towards their civic engagement deliverables, students are required to submit to CCECS:
- Volunteer activities tracking sheet to be submitted by the 25th of every month
-
Reflection paper documenting the volunteering experience upon successful completion to be submitted by the 25th of every month
- High resolution photos reflecting student's engagement to be used on social media outlets and for reporting purposes [Note: must seek prior permission from the organization and concerned people]
