This year’s AMICAL Consortium's
Annual Conference was held at the American University of Kuwait in January and was entitled: “Digital Transformation at International Liberal Arts Institutions: Innovation, Collaboration, and Sustainability
Three UL staff members attended the consortium:
- Fatmeh Charafeddine, Associate University Librarian for Research and Academic Collaboration Services
- Basma Chebani, Associate University Librarian for Cataloging and Metadata Services
- Elie Kahale, Director of Digital Initiatives and Scholarship
The event featured discussions and panels about a number of topics, including digital transformation and its out-laying challenges, digital media and data privacy, information literacy in the digital age, and others.
In addition to attending the event, Kahale was an active member in the AMICAL’s Program Committee, one of the organizing committees of the annual conference.
Charafeddine, in collaboration with Abir Ward from the Communication Skills Program at AUB, gave a presentation entitled “Love triangle: A collaboration between Wikipedia, AUB libraries, and communication skills classes in teaching academic writing”, which described the collaboration between faculty, students and librarians in developing an online presence for Lebanese and Arab authors on the world’s largest online encyclopedia, Wikipedia. Charafeddine believes that “In addition to helping students locating library resources about the Lebanese authors, this project was constructive in teaching information literacy principles.”
Chebani, on the other hand, commended the successful conference and highlighted a specific workshop, which she found very interesting. It was conducted by Donna Scheeder, President of Library Strategies International and was about Library leadership.
