The University Libraries and the Neighborhood Initiative at AUB launched the Community Book Exchange program on Thursday, October 16, 2014, at the Jafet Library Courtyard. More than 80 people showed up and got introduced to the program, and around 50 of them exchanged books from their personal collections.
The idea of the program is straightforward: “Participation is simple: bring a book to take a book".
The Community Book Exchange Program aims to reach out not only to the AUB Community as a whole but also to the university's neighbors in Ras Beirut. The collaboration between University Libraries and the Neighborhood Initiative encourages reading and social interaction and strengthens AUB's relationship with its neighbors.
The program welcomes neighbors into AUB's campus, and, at other times, it will step beyond the walls to organize the exchange in public spaces and places in the neighborhood.
Visit the Community Book Exchange Facebook page where new books will be listed, and where members can have discussions about books and about reading in general.
