The University Libraries launched the “Research and Thesis Writing Workshop Series” catered for Graduate students, in collaboration with the AUB Writing Center.
Established in coordination with the Graduate Council and the Graduate Student Society at AUB, the aim of the workshop series is to introduce continuing graduate students to key concepts in research and academic writing and to inform them about academic support available at AUB.
The series consists of 4 workshops to be held throughout the academic year:
1.Getting Started with Graduate Research
2.Getting Your Thesis Proposal Started
3.Resources for Thesis Writers
4. After Your Thesis: Getting Published
The first two workshops have been held already during the fall semester of 2014.
The first workshop was held in mid-September and covered the following topics: finding library resources in specific fields, finding reference material, integrating writing with the research process, structuring a paper and planning a time-frame for thesis writing. There was a very high demand for this workshop, and the library, along with its partners, had to accommodate the demand by offering a second session.
The second workshop, entitled “Getting Your Research Proposal Started” was held in mid- November and reviewed the process of writing a proposal; the most important elements that must be present in a research proposal; and how to conduct a review of literature in a specific field.
The workshop series will continue in the spring semester with the two remaining presentations.
