On November 17, 2022, Basma Chebani, Associate University Librarian for Cataloging and Metadata Services at the AUB Libraries, was elected President of the Lebanese Library Association (LLA).
Chebani pledged at the LLA General Assembly to make the association a coordinating and networking hub for all Lebanese libraries. She also promised to advance the careers of Lebanese librarians, archivists and library science students through a series of workshops, training courses and conferences, in order to transmit knowledge and information on the latest innovations in the field of library science and digital humanities after the suspension of LLA activities due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
She also ensured the commencement of work on IFLA's proposed library map project in Lebanon and the promoting of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
