The AUB Libraries is delighted to announce the launch on Wednesday, September 17th, 2014, of its first online exhibit “Dar al-Fata al-Arabi Publishing House and Mohieddine al-Labbad,“ which is accessible through our Library home page, and our Archives and Special Collections page. This is the first in a forthcoming series of exhibits using the web-publishing platform Omeka that allows us to showcase samples and highlights from our collections online. The viewer will get a glimpse into the rich material held at the AUB Libraries' Archives and Special Collections, which can be browsed and enjoyed on our premises, at the Jafet Library Archives and Special Collections Department.
Dar al-Fata al-Arabi, founded in Beirut in 1974, is a remarkable and influential publisher of children's books in the Arab world. It broke the mold of traditional children's publishing at the time and engaged prominent litterateurs to craft original Arabic texts and leading artists to forge a new aesthetic. Dar al-Fatah's books are a witness to the social and political turmoil, the creativity, and the rich cultural, ideological and theoretical debates and commitments in the region at the time.
Please enjoy, and stay tuned for many more AUB Libraries online exhibits in the coming months, to be all posted on our University Library pages!
