The AUB University Libraries are glad to be supporting the Palestine Land Studies Center (PLSC) at AUB by processing and transitorily housing a collection donated by Dr. Salman Abu Sitta. Dr. Abu Sitta is a prominent and pillar Palestinian researcher, mostly known for documenting Palestinian history, geography, culture, and society.
In June of 2021, 145 boxes, holding around 7,000 items, were generously donated to the Palestine Land Studies Center (PLSC) by Dr. Salman Abu Sitta, under the name of the Palestine Land Society in London.
The donation is currently being processed at the University Libraries and will be made available for researchers and the community to access soon.
The collection includes books (some of which are currently being repaired) and periodicals that cover a variety of topics related to Palestine and the Palestinians. The collection mainly focuses on the Palestinian diaspora, Palestinian rights, Palestinian lands and the Right of Return. Other topics include the Arab-Israeli conflict, British Mandate, Arab Nationalism, International Law and UN resolutions, and other historical, social and political studies of the region.
The donated material range in date from 1900 to the early 21st century and are mainly in English and Arabic languages.
The collection will be hosted temporarily in Jafet Memorial Library and later on in the newly inaugurated Palestine Land Studies Center (PLSC).
When finalized, this collection will constitute an excellent source for all those interested in the political, social, economic, and intellectual history of Palestine and the Palestinians.
