GD305 – Packaging & Environmental Design

Outside-In: The Window Display

Instructors: Leila Musfy, Mia Azar

Spring 2018
Department of Architecture and Design (ArD), MSFEA,
American University of Beirut

In this studio course, students are introduced to and given the space to explore the principles of packaging and environmental design by working on a series of exercises and projects. Both of these practices of the graphic design discipline allow the exploration of familiar graphic forms, as 3-dimensional configurations on the one hand, and within navigable spaces on the other.

About the project/assignment

In this project, each group chose a shop in AUB’s vicinity for which they had to redesign the window display.
Realization of a real-life design project, negotiation with a client through a clear and convincing presentation of the work, adaptation of a design idea within the limitations of space, and consideration of the interaction of the display with the public were all key aspects to be considered by the students.
