Under the High Patronage of H.E. the Minister of Culture Dr. Mohamed Daoud Daoud, and upon the initiative of the Permanent Delegation of Lebanon to UNESCO, and in collaboration with the Ministry of Telecommunications and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and the Municipality of Beirut, the Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO, the ESA Business school, the American University of Beirut (AUB)- the Neighborhood Initiative and the Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ)- the Institute for Theater, Audiovisual and Cinematographic Studies (IESAV) co-organized the Week of Sound for the first time in Beirut-Lebanon from 8 till 17 May 2019 in the presence of Mr. Christian Hugonnet the Founder/President of the Association “La Semaine du Son France" Week of Sound Association France", and Dr. Pierre Anhoury, public health specialist, previous director of the hearing foundation.
This initiative followed the adoption by the UNESCO General Conference in 2017, of the Resolution 39 C/49 on "The importance of sound in today's world: promoting best practices", at the request of Lebanon, France, Argentina, and Japan. The decision points out that the sound environment is a key component in the equilibrium of all human beings in their relationship with others and with the world, in its economic, environmental, societal, medical, industrial and cultural dimensions.
The AUB Neighborhood Initiative participated through curating the below projects.

Awareness sessions on Sound and Hearing Loss
As part of La Semaine du Son, the students of the Medical Audiology Sciences Program at the Faculty of Health Sciences - AUB in collaboration with the AUB Neighborhood Initiative, conducted awareness sessions on sound and hearing loss in schools in Ras Beirut. The school students were able to experiment ways to protect their hearing using ear plugs.
