Message To AUB Students

Dear Students,

AUB resumes classes tomorrow, Thursday 31 October, as most of you already know.  I am writing to you to let you know that there are many support services available to help your return to AUB life following a rollercoaster few weeks filled with both euphoria and anxiety. We have taken note of many of the messages of concern and enquiries regarding the coming phase of the semester. Academically, in the next few days you will be receiving updates on the rescheduling of syllabi towards completion of the semester which I know will be critical to many of you. Every effort is being made to ensure that the resumption of contact hours in the classroom, necessary lab work, studio work and all other enriching educational activities that we know and admire at AUB will be modified to ensure minimal disruption and that the semester is completed in optimal time.

We understand that there are many special groups or circumstances among you, and in recognition of that, your faculty deans are working diligently with your professors and instructors to ensure the transition in the coming days will be as smooth and accommodating as possible. For those of you who have special circumstances, for example if you are out of the country, please let your professors and your faculty deans office know so that this may be compensated for accordingly.

As an initial action, no exams will be held during the first week starting tomorrow nor will there be any assignment deadlines during this period. Please keep checking your emails as you will be receiving more specific details about the semester schedule applicable to your faculty in the coming days.

The collective experience we have all shared in recent weeks has helped bring the community even closer together and reaffirmed the values of tolerance, respect and free expression that are deeply entrenched in the fabric of AUB. This is something we are determined to maintain together. The administration and faculty senators have been aligned in highlighting the importance of the aspirational spirit and hope for a better tomorrow on campus. All should be far from a punitive mindset as classes resume, so that we put back on track the noble educational mission that makes AUB what it is.

I look forward to seeing you around campus. Please take care of each other and all of us, faculty and staff, will be here to support you to the best of our abilities.

Best regards,

Talal Nizameddin, PhD

Dean of Student Affairs
