Visiting, Exchange and Non-Degree

    Requirements

    ​Visiting/Exchange Students

    Students who are on a study abroad program or as part of an exchange program may apply Applicants must be students at other recognized institutions of higher learning pursuing and have completed at least the sophomore year or its equivalent at their home universities. Admission is offered normally for two terms if the student is joining AUB starting fall or for one term if starting in spring (registration may be extended to another term depending on course offerings and achievements in courses taken at AUB upon submission of a petition to this effect). Visiting students may take up to seventeen credits per term and are normally expected to complete their degrees at their home universities. Please note the following conditions:

    • Students may normally take up to 17 undergraduate credits or 9 graduate credits per term.
    • Students must be enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate degree program at a recognized university outside Lebanon.
    • Applicant should have completed the sophomore year at his/her home university before starting studies at AUB.
    • Students should have a GPA of 3.0/4.0 or its equivalent.
    • Exchange applicants need to confirm with their home universities that they have exchange agreements with AUB.
    • Students must meet the English language requirement.

    Non-degree Students

    ​Students enrolled at recognized universities other than AUB (or who have completed some course work - at least one term or 12 credits - at other universities) and who have a recognized secondary school diploma, or the equivalent from a recognized university, may apply to take up to seventeen credits per term at the undergraduate level in any faculty for the fall term. Admission is normally offered for two terms if the student is joining AUB starting fall or for one term if starting in spring (registration may be extended to another term depending on course offerings and achievement in courses taken at AUB upon submission of a petition to this effect). Please note the conditions below​:

    • Students may normally take up to 17 undergraduate credits or 9 graduate credits per term.
    • Students must have a high school diploma, school leaving certificate, government. secondary school certificate or higher level of education recognized by AUB.
    • Students must have completed at least one term at another university recognized by AUB.
    • Credits taken at AUB may be considered toward AUB degrees if the student reapplies for admission as a regular student, and is accepted based on the admission criteria.
    • Students must meet the English language requirement.​


    I​m​portant Note: Admission to AUB as a non-degree or visiting student does not guarantee admission to a regular degree program at AUB.​

      • Note: Accepted applicants must pay a $1000 confirmation fee per the acceptance email notification.​​

    2- Check the documents requested in the application, which may include the following:

      • Most recent college/university transcript with information on the grading scale if not on a US 4.0 or percentage.
      • Adviser/professor/supervisor recommendation form​(s): two letters of recommendations are required for visiting students, one from an academic or study abroad adviser, and one from a current professor
      • English language r​equi​rement (upon admission).

    ​​3- Pay the application fee ($50) for non-degree and visiting applicants. Exchange applicants are exempted from paying this application fee.

    IMPORTANT NOTE: Please note that starting fall term 2019, the American University of Beirut will begin billing students in US dollars for tuition, housing, and other fees. Settlement of bills will continue to be possible in USD or Lebanese pounds at the market rate of exchange. The change is being made after AUB joined the Common Application for admissions to nearly 900 US and international institutions.

    The non-refundable application fee can be paid in one of the following ways:

    Online: You can pay (ex: with credit card) while submitting your application online.

    Cash: You can pay at the Cashier's Office in AUB, by presenting the email (application receipt) with your AUB application ID number.

    Wire Transfer: You can wire transfer the application fee to one of our bank accounts (listed below) and please make sure to include the Transfer Instruction referring to your applicant's full name: "Admissions application fee for applicant's full name."
