For our students, for our patients
The American University of Beirut (AUB) has played a transformative role in the history of Lebanon, the Arab world, and globally. For 155 years, we have offered a world-class education to the people of Lebanon and the region and cared for the sick and wounded at our hospital.
The challenges we face today as a result of the economic and financial collapse of Lebanon, the pandemic, and the August 4, 2020, explosion in the Beirut port are unprecedented. Everyone has been affected. The impact on our students – and on patients seeking care at our medical center – has been especially profound.
Although the needs are enormous – and growing – even a modest donation can have a significant impact on the lives of young men and women seeking an AUB degree, and for patients and their families struggling to pay for medical care. A gift of $10,000, for example, is enough to provide partial scholarships for two or three students. This partial scholarship can make all the difference, enabling a student to graduate. A gift of $10,000 can also pay for the medical treatment of 8-10 patients at the AUB Medical Center – a premature baby being cared for at our neonatal intensive care unit, a sick child who needs to see a doctor, a mother who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Your gift of any amount makes a difference – to our students, to our patients.
We organized an in-person and virtual fundraising dinner on November 19, 2021, “for our students, for our patients.” The reception and dinner took place at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in New York City, a stunning location with breathtaking views. We are deeply grateful to our donors who contributed so generously to support our students and patients. Thank you!
The event was held in accordance with all New York City health and safety protocols. All attendees were required to be fully vaccinated.
The evening program included:
- Welcoming Remarks by Board of Trustees Chairman Philip S. Khoury
- Keynote Address by AUB President Fadlo R. Khuri
- Performance by oud and violin virtuoso and composer Simon Shaheen
- Live fundraising appeal
- DJ & music
