2021 is AUB's centennial of admitting women students to its professional schools. To celebrate this event AUB launched the AUB4Women Campaign.
About the AUB4Women Campaign
Although there have been women nursing students at our university since 1905, it was in fall 1921 that AUB began to admit women students to its professional schools (medicine, pharmacy, dentistry). On the occasion of this centennial milestone event, AUB launched the AUB4Women Campaign to establish scholarship funds that benefit women students. This initiative is especially timely given the very difficult economic situation in Lebanon, which is causing enormous hardship for so many AUB students.
The former colleagues, friends, and family of Mary Jones have come together to establish the Mary Jones Memorial Award to honor Mary and her extraordinary dedication to AUB – an institution she served for more than 24 years.
About Mary Jones
When she died on Christmas morning 2020, Mary left behind a wide circle of grieving friends and family members. While her professional abilities were impressive, Mary was much more than a competent data professional. Beloved and treasured by her colleagues in both New York and Beirut, Mary had a flair for fashion, food, and events, creating elegance at AUB international workshops, conferences, board meetings, and galas. Her garden of exotic plants continues to thrive on every windowsill and surface of the New York Office.
How it will work
- The Mary Jones Memorial Award will be presented around Commencement to a graduating female student who exemplifies outstanding commitment to community service and volunteerism – values that Mary so faithfully embodied during her years with AUB.
- The endowed fund will exist at AUB in perpetuity and will be invested with the large pool of endowed funds at AUB.
- Our target is to raise a minimum of $25,000.
Your gift will honor the memory of Mary Jones and her extraordinary dedication to AUB.
