2021 is AUB's centennial of admitting women students to the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and to its professional schools in medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy. To celebrate this event AUB launched the AUB4Women Campaign.
About the AUB4Women Campaign
In 1921, AUB decided to admit women students to the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and to its graduate programs in medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy. This extraordinary and courageous step would provide tens of thousands of women in Lebanon and the region with a unique experience. It charted a courageous path, contributing to a shift in gender relations and providing young women of our region with the possibility to imagine a different future.
Mary Robinson made a generous bequest to the university to fund the Mary R. Robinson Endowed Scholarship, one of the first scholarship funds to be recognized as part of AUB’s AUB4Women Campaign.
About Mary Robinson
AUB’s first woman dean, Mary Robinson (1927-2020) was a strong champion of women students during a time of enormous change at AUB: between 1959 and 1969, the period during which she was dean of women, the number of women students on campus increased dramatically from 400 to 1,000. She participated in AUB’s 150th celebrations in New York City in 2016 when she was celebrated as one of AUB’s History Makers.
How it will work
- The Mary R. Robinson Endowed Scholarship supports women students in financial need.
- The endowed fund will exist at AUB in perpetuity and will be invested with the large pool of endowed funds at AUB.
Your gift will honor the memory of Mary Robinson and her enduring legacy at AUB.
Thank you for your support!
