He knew from the time he was very young that it would be up to him to take care of his parents and sisters. He also knew that he wanted to be a doctor. What the late Dr. Jean Moadie (BA '43, MD '47) could not imagine was that he would be awarded a full scholarship that would make it possible for him to attend AUB and earn both his undergraduate and MD degrees. He wanted to give back so that others would have the opportunity that had been so valuable to him.
When Dr. Moadie died in 2003, his family decided to establish an endowed fund in their brother's name from his estate so, his sister Hilda remembered many years later, “we could help other students the way Jean had been helped." The Dr. Jean Moadie Memorial Endowed Scholarship has done just that—providing valuable scholarships to grateful medical students who would not have been able to attend AUB without this support.
