Gift & Estate Planning Considerations
  • You can help secure the future of AUB and maintain security for your family by considering a planned gift to AUB, or simply including AUB in your will or estate plans. There are several types of planned gifts you can choose from. We can assist you in determining the right type of planned gift that will meet your philanthropic needs. Most US donors make planned gifts from one of the categories below:

    • Bequests:  One of the easiest ways to make a planned gift is to include it in your will. FreeWill offers an online tool to assist US donors in creating or updating their wills. If you wish to use FreeWill's software package for free, you may do so by clicking here. You will be taken to a website operated by FreeWill.
        • You can, for example, use the following sample language to make a bequest to AUB in a will or revocable trust. “I bequeath [the sum of ________] [_____%] of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate] to the AMERICAN UNIVERSITY OF BEIRUT, New York, New York, [for its general purposes] [to fund a specific purpose, scholarship, or other program.]
        • Our offices can also assist you in providing suggested language as needed for a legal or financial advisor.
    • Charitable Remainder Trust: A charitable remainder trust provides non-charitable beneficiaries with a stream of income for a specified period of time. Upon the termination of the trust, the remaining trust property passes to one or more charities.
    • Charitable Gift Annuity: A charitable gift annuity is an agreement in which a donor transfers assets to AUB in exchange for a lifetime income stream and a tax benefit.
    • Charitable Lead Trust: A charitable lead trust provides an income stream to one or more charities for a specified period of time, after the expiration of which the remainder passes to one or more non-charitable beneficiaries.
    • Gifts of Retirement Plan Assets:  You may designate AUB as the beneficiary of all or a portion of your retirement plan at your death. To do so, you should contact the administrator of your retirement plan and request a beneficiary designation form.
    • Insurance:  You may name AUB as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy or transfer a paid-up policy to AUB during your life.

The foregoing planned gift options may not be relevant to you if you are not a US donor. If you are from Canada or elsewhere, please contact us to discuss which of these options may make sense for you. We can assist you with further information or with choosing the right type of planned gift for your needs.

By proceeding, you are leaving AUB’s website and agree that AUB will have no responsibility or liability of any nature arising from your use of the FreeWill tools
