  Founded in 1866, the American University of Beirut is a teaching-centered research university based on the American liberal arts model of higher education. AUB has over 8,000 students and 800 faculty members. The University encourages freedom of thought and expression and seeks to graduate men and women committed to creative and critical thinking, lifelong learning, personal integrity, civic responsibility, and leadership.

AUB offers more than 130 programs leading to bachelor's, master's, MD, and PhD degrees. The main language of instruction is English.

Student Testimonials

The number of students requesting financial assistance increased dramatically in 2019-20 due to the deteriorating economic circumstances in the country, the restrictions on bank accounts that made it all but impossible for people to access their savings, the impact of COVID-19 on an already devastated economy, and the August 4 explosion in the Beirut port.

We want to introduce you to just a few of the 1,764 students who received support from 559 donor-funded scholarships in 2019-20. Here is a list of endowed and current donor-funded scholarships that have been established at AUB. There are also students who are receiving support from scholarship programs funded by the university and philanthropic foundations.
