The MD Class of ’79 celebrates old friendships and creates new memories

For some, it was a short walk to AUB, a familiar place they visit often. For others, it was a long journey and their first trip to campus in decades. For everyone who was there—and their families—the 40th reunion of the MD Class of '79 was a very special occasion. It was a time to celebrate enduring bonds of friendship, remember classmates who have since departed, tour new facilities at the Medical Center, and to give back to their alma mater.

The reunion kicked off with a formal honoring ceremony in the stunning Halim and Aida Daniel Academic and Clinical Center (Daniel ACC). In her welcoming remarks, AVP Salma Oueida spoke about the importance of class reunions in celebrating the bond that alumni feel for their alma mater and with each other. She also congratulated the MD Class of '79 for its initiative to honor the late Taniel Sarkis Shadarevian by making a class gift to support scholarships. Class representative Dr. Fadi Abdul-Karim reminded his classmates of the promise they had made many years ago to never forget Taniel. He also told wonderful stories about the times they had shared at AUB. EVP Mohamed Sayegh also addressed the celebrating alumni, thanking them for their support for scholarships for medical students.

After watching a video highlighting recent developments at AUBMC, members of the celebrating class received 40th anniversary memorabilia from Sayegh and Oueida. The honoring ceremony was followed by a tour of the Daniel ACC building. It was only one of many activities that the Alumni Relations Office organized for the MD Class of '79 and their families including social dinners and a family outing to Maaser El Shouf. “It was wonderful to welcome so many of our alumni and their families back to campus for this very special reunion," said Oueida.
