Dr. Majd Ariss Timani, a pediatrician, a teacher, and mentor passed away on April 5, 2022.
Dr. Ariss earned her MD from the Faculté Francaise de Médecine at Saint Joseph University , Beirut and has been associated with AUB's Department of Pediatrics since 1971. She also worked at the University Health Services since 1973, and as such a teacher to all the graduates of the department since and a pediatrician to countless children in the AUB community and beyond.
She started teaching at AUB as of 1972 as an instructor in pediatrics, lecturer in pediatrics, and as an assistant professor of pediatrics up until 2009. Dr. Ariss remained a clinical associate at AUB till 2019.
In 1993, she contributed to the revival of the Lebanese Pediatric Society, that had been inactive since the war years and was elected as its new president. She played a key role in developing national health policies targeting children and was awarded the Women in Health Award of the Ministry of Health.
She pioneered adolescent medicine in Lebanon by establishing the Adolescent Health Clinic and Program at AUBMC in 2003.
Her memory will be a blessing to her students, colleagues, and patients.
Condolences will be accepted at the AUB Alumni Association in Hamra, Beirut, on Thursday and Friday, April 7 and 8, 2022, from 3:00 pm till 6:00 pm.
