  Founded in 1866, the American University of Beirut is a teaching-centered research university based on the American liberal arts model of higher education. AUB has over 8,000 students and 800 faculty members. The University encourages freedom of thought and expression and seeks to graduate men and women committed to creative and critical thinking, lifelong learning, personal integrity, civic responsibility, and leadership.

  AUB is accredited in the US by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and includes six faculties: Arts and Sciences, Medicine, Engineering and Architecture, Agricultural and Food Sciences, Health Sciences, and Business. AUB offers more than 130 programs leading to bachelor's, master's, MD, and PhD degrees. The main language of instruction is English.

International recognition of the American University of Beirut's consistent excellence in both general and specific areas of performance demonstrate its commitment to delivering the highest quality education, creating and advancing knowledge, and making an acknowledged impact on the lives of its graduates and society as a whole.

For overall performance, AUB was ranked among the world's top 17^th percentile (ranking 250^th) out of 1,503 ranked universities in the QS World University Rankings 2025: Top Global Universities. Since the inception of the QS Arab Region University Rankings in 2014, AUB has annually ranked as the number one university in Lebanon and among the top six regionally.

Despite the accumulating challenges facing Lebanon and the region, AUB continues to distinguish itself particularly in graduating highly employable students, producing impactful research, and trail-blazing on sustainability.

Distinction in the Employability of Graduates

Ensuring high employability and career options for its graduates in the intensely competitive global job market, AUB has been consistently ranked among the world's top universities, attesting to its record and reputation among employers for producing graduates who have made a meaningful impact on society. In the latest QS World University Rankings, AUB attained a world-leading rank of 35 for its success in graduating future leaders who are most sought by employers. Other international rankings have also placed AUB among the top universities in graduate employability worldwide, such as the Global Employability University Ranking and Survey 2024, which ranked AUB 2^nd regionally and 154^th globally, and the Digital Leaders in Higher Education 2024, which ranked AUB first regionally and 133^rd globally.
