AUB President Fadlo Khuri conducted a visit to Peking University (PKU) where he met with its president, Dr. Lin Jianhua, to talk about collaboration in higher education.

During his visit, President Khuri toured the Department of Arabic Language and Literature at PKU and taught a class there, accompanied by Vice Dean of the PKU School of Foreign Languages Fu Zhiming.

Commenting on the visit, President Khuri said, “It was a pleasure to visit Peking University and its president, Dr. Lin Jianhua, who is a world-renowned chemist and clearly someone who is open to major collaborations both in the languages and humanities and in the sciences and medicine and engineering.

“We believe that bringing the finest institutions in the Arab world and in China together in meaningful collaborations and student exchange and in research and faculty collaborations will have a profound impact on the transmittal of important cultural understanding and of substantial scholarship,” he added.

Dr. Fadlo Khuri also engaged in the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting of the New Champions, attending meetings that he described as “frank exchanges of ideas and opportunities,” and participating in workshops at the annual meeting entitled Educating the Global Middle Class and From University Discovery to Big Business.

Khuri also attended a boardroom discussion on Envisioning a Global Cooperation Model for Precision Medicine, which was preceded by an expert reception held by the WEF.

Two AUB professors were also at the Annual Meeting of the New Champions, having become members of the World Economic Forum’s Young Scientists Group. Drs. Lamis Jomaa and Pierre Karam are two out of only three members that have been selected to this prestigious group from the region. President Khuri met with both professors, whom he labeled “AUB’s star Young Science Champions,” and attended the WEF meeting sessions that they led.
