The QS World University Rankings has released their annual list for the year 2020. The American University of Beirut, being one of the leading higher education institutions in the region, has been yet again ranked in the top 250 globally and number one in Lebanon.

The 2020 QS ranking surveyed 1,620 institutions but only 1,001 institutions were ranked, and AUB achieved a world rank of 244. Even with an increasingly competitive field, the university continues to improve. In 2014, the university was in the top 29% of all the considered institutions. Today AUB is in the top 23% globally.

QS rankings are based on six indicators. One of these indicators is employer reputation which is one of AUB's strongest areas. AUB provides a high-end educational experience to its students unlike any other in the region and that is why businesses globally, and especially in the Arab world, always seek out AUB graduates. On academic reputation, one of the most heavily weighted indicators (40%), AUB improved considerably. This is due largely to the high quality researchers that AUB has as well as a result of the university reinstating academic tenure. Faculty-student ratio is another indicator where AUB did very well and is a sign of high quality education.

Another strong indicator for AUB is the number of international faculty and students. Despite the challenges in Lebanon—whether it is economic issues, the political situation, or an increase in competition—AUB's international outlook continues to stand solid. With 37% of the faculty being international and 22% of the students representing 90 different countries around the world, AUB considerably exceeds the global median according to QS. These indicators show that AUB truly is a diverse university and is succeeding on the global stage.
