The Asfari Institute for Civil Society and Citizenship announces the availability of small research grants in civil society and citizenship studies. The Institute is particularly interested in supporting projects that broaden critical knowledge and contribute to the empowerment of practitioners and activists.

Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
Analytical, current or historical, and critical narratives and studies on civil society or on citizenship in the Arab region;
Country-specific or regional in scope;
Sector-specific or broad;
Forward looking analyses to identify potential alternative models of societal association and/or the effective exercise of citizenship.
In addition to these broad topics, the Asfari Institute will periodically announce grants provided for research into specific priority themes and topics as part of its own research program.
This opportunity is open to academics or practitioner/activists who are passionate about knowledge building, empowerment and change.
Grants are provided up to a maximum of $10,000, including all research fees, expenses and incidentals. The Asfari Institute is happy to discuss and further refine the proposal to ensure maximum mutual benefit.

To apply, please provide the following:

(1) A cover letter (2 page maximum) that includes an abstract of the research idea proposed, general approach and total budget requested.

(2) Research Proposal (6 pages maximum) that includes:
a. Goals of the project
b. The significance of the project and its expected outcomes
c. Methodology pursued
d. Where the project will be conducted and timing
e. Proposed budget that describes how grant funds would be expended

(3) A curriculum vitae of the individual(s) undertaking the research and/or a description and history of the organization(s) proposing the research

Proposals will be blind-reviewed by committee and applicants will be informed within one month of application. The committee may offer provisional approval and applicants may be contacted for revisions before approvals are final.
