WLED CAZA: ENGAGED MORROCAN COMICS AND STREET ART

The SkefKef artist collective are a group of Moroccan Comics artists that form part of a movement of urban culture, working interdisciplinarilly in comics, urban/street art and music, in Casablanca. Beyond playing an active role in the new pan Arab movement of comics that have been boomed after the regional uprisings, they are involved in the artistic and cultural scene of their country, forming part of the vibrant youth movement there. This exhibition displays selected works of the Skefkef collective, featuring a number of talented artists whose works overlap into the various areas of comics and urban art, while echoing a deliberate locality reflected in the language and dialects of the comics (Moroccan dialect and Amazigh), the urban environment of their city, the subcultures, while tackling various issues of identity, representation & censorship among others.
