Exhibition Synopsis:
It is no coincidence that the Arab youth’s modern renaissance in Comics accompanied the revolutions in the Arab world that began a decade ago. Collectives and individuals pursued a dream that has today become an established reality among the Arab youths’ art space. The exhibition, “Arab Comics Today: The New Generation,” sheds light on these young women and men, who have become an integral part of the artistic scene in our contemporary Arab world. These artists innovate, produce, and stubbornly challenge the difficult circumstances and vicissitudes that are afflicting us all.
This exhibition brings together “the new generation’ of over 60 Comics artists and 11 collectives from across the Arab world, and whom have played an active role in the rise and spread of Comics art for adults in the region.
In its current version, the exhibition includes the new players who have entered the contemporary Comics scene, since the first edition of this exhibition that took place at the Museum of Comics in France’s Angouleme in 2018. It also highlights those who were previously tied to the collectives and have since ventured out on their own, publishing independently, and overcoming the regional borders that had tinted their artistic identity, to emerge at the broader international stage and showcase their productions and creative activities.
This exhibition is an attempt to shed light on the colossal and pivotal production of Arab Comics art, through a select number of artists, heard through their voices, and seen through their eyes.
